If the people cannot fight back against the government through direct action then there is no reason that the government absoloutely needs to care for the people
if the government feels there will be no violent backlash against them, then they will be free to do what ever they want. the first goal in a police state forming is the disarming of the people. its happened many times in europe and is the reason why we fired on the british redcoats at lexington and concord.

I doubt there isn’t a way to make a self regulating government
It’s obviously hard, and hard to tell if you’ve succeeded
But we should at least try to make the government better at serving the people, if we’re fighting for our right to violently overthrow it
A government we don’t need to hold a gun to should be an aspiration, at least amongst political scientists
At the very least, people should be more satisfied with their government
