The "it was just famine" meme ignores years of policies, failure (either via incompetence or on purpose) to mitigate the issue. Also can't forget dekulakization, killing off millions of middle-class farmers and thinking it won't damage your food output.

This is less their traditional style and more of a grandiose style well-liked during the Soviet era.
Although it is a fairly unique type of building, since the Khruschev era saw a decline of grandiose neoclassical buildings.
