have you read any of Nestorius?

2019-02-03 03:30:12 UTC

What do you believe Nestorianism entails?

2019-02-03 03:30:40 UTC

Nestorianism is the heresy that Christ is in two persons. Nestorius never held the heresy that bore his name

2019-02-03 03:30:53 UTC

What then did he believe?

2019-02-03 03:30:58 UTC

"They confuse each nature through the mutability that arises through the blending, even though in reality each nature is adored through an unconfused conjunction of the highest sort in the single person of the only-begotten."

2019-02-03 03:31:05 UTC

From his 2nd Epistle to Pope Celestine

2019-02-03 03:31:12 UTC

"In the case of the term Theotokos, I am not opposed to those who want to say it, unless it should advance to the confusion of natures in the manner of the madness of Apollinaris or Arius."

2019-02-03 03:31:14 UTC

From his 3rd Epistle

2019-02-03 03:31:17 UTC

He was a dyophysite

2019-02-03 03:32:11 UTC

So let me ask you this, do you actually believe that the true Church is a small sect that is mostly restricted to a specific geographical location

2019-02-03 03:33:07 UTC

"Even if Catholics faithful to tradition are reduced to a handful, they are the one who are the true Church of Jesus Christ."

2019-02-03 03:33:10 UTC

that's St Athanasius

2019-02-03 03:33:24 UTC

I hope you're not suggesting that truth is decided by a majority of bishops

2019-02-03 03:34:00 UTC

It may not be so, but the Church is universal, it isn’t shut off somewhere

2019-02-03 03:34:10 UTC

We agree

2019-02-03 03:34:41 UTC

The church has historically been much bigger, it is at its weakest right now

2019-02-03 03:34:49 UTC

That doesn't detract from its truth

2019-02-03 03:35:00 UTC

It’s been at it’s weakest for 1500 years?

2019-02-03 03:35:13 UTC

No?

2019-02-03 03:35:22 UTC

The CotE was huge up into the 14th century

2019-02-03 03:35:23 UTC

Fresh is Orthodox

2019-02-03 03:35:30 UTC

it started declining after that

2019-02-03 03:35:42 UTC

it was under very heavy persecution in the 20th century during the Assyrian genocide

2019-02-03 03:36:06 UTC

yea, the church being based in Assyria was bad news

2019-02-03 03:36:11 UTC

fuckin muzzies

2019-02-03 03:36:17 UTC

Well, I don’t believe God would allow His Church to decline to such an extent. The gospel was said to be preached to all nations

2019-02-03 03:36:47 UTC

A semi-Arian could have said that to an Orthodox Christian in the 4th century

2019-02-03 03:37:16 UTC

The CotE spread Christianity to as far as China, Mongolia, and Japan

2019-02-03 03:37:29 UTC

And it has been preserved in India to this day

2019-02-03 03:37:35 UTC

The Arian crisis didn’t last for very long, your sect has been in decline for many centuries

2019-02-03 03:38:17 UTC

Since the 14th

2019-02-03 03:38:43 UTC

Before that, it was by many estimates larger than the Latin church

2019-02-03 03:40:04 UTC

I would rather talk on theological grounds than appeals to the size of the church

2019-02-03 03:40:18 UTC

one can say the catholic church and the orthodox church suffered the same

2019-02-03 03:40:22 UTC

^

2019-02-03 03:41:01 UTC

The church is probably leaving its period of decline now, at least it seems so to me

2019-02-03 03:41:13 UTC

Are you Assyrian?

2019-02-03 03:41:18 UTC

No

2019-02-03 03:41:24 UTC

Along with about 15% of the church

2019-02-03 03:43:12 UTC

Well, I’m no theologian, so I’m not exactly equipped to debate that matter, but as a rule I don’t take seriously small sects claiming to be the true Church. Same with the Sedevecantists and those sorts of people

2019-02-03 03:44:12 UTC

The difference with the Sedevecantists is that they do not occupy any apostolic see
