would anyone mind giving me a hand? I had a debate in my law class, it was around gun control. I had spent yesterday researching points against it as I was on that side. Afterwards, someone told me they were the same point, but simply extended to three. Would anyone mind confirming?
Point One
>Firearm classification too specific
>Elaborate, state firing modes (semi-automatic, fully automatic, bolt action, single-shot weapons)
>AR-15 classification, nor Assault rifle, not military grade, Modern sports rifle.
>Military Grade = M16 and varients, multiple firing modes
>Hunting rifles were once military grade (Mosin, Enfield, kar-98, Bolt Action) (M1 Garand, M14, semi-auto). Despite loading system, good Rate of fire.
>Light Machine Guns, Sub-machine guns, handguns
>Too complex, no blanket stipulations.
>BREAK<
>Rebuttle<
Point Two
>People lie, cheat, steal, kill to achieve goal
>this includes guns
>Mass-shooters already content with taking 50 lives, gun laws of no concern.
>Nuclear deterrant comparison & explanation
>BREAK<
>Rebuttle<
Point Three
>Objectively ineffective
>Australian statistics altered
>criteria for mass shooting before = 4+ casualties. After, Mass shooting = 6+ casualties
>Original critera shows no change in nunmber of mass shootings.
>gun control validity now called into questions
>Rebuttle<
Solution
>Switzerland's gun laws
>far fewer shootings in Switzerland
>Firearm saftey/education/culture
>Educate would-be gun owners on morales, saftey, and ALL legalities around guns.
>FIN<
It may be this person meant in the context of the actual debate, which was horribly organized and a failure on all fronts, but I want to be sure.
well, i think its fine i can see why the person says that but it doesnt look similar
The main points are
>Firearm classification
>Can't Trust people
and
>control is objectively ineffective
I don't see how those are the same point. They're interconnected, aye, but not the same point as far as I'm concerned.
yea thats where i think hes getting confused cause they're connected but not the same
*they
I'd lose my head if I didn't correct you on that
oof
they're probably over simplifying it
I kinda like my head, I'd rather keep it.
cx
I shouldn't be surprised that it's over-simplified. First of all, we only had two minutes to rebuttal and make a point, hardly a good ammount of time to even make a point worth making in the first place, never mind rebuttal a point on top of that. Additionally, it's highschool leve, it was informal, it would have been better to just (and people don't really like this idea for some reason) H A V E A C O N V E R S A T I O N
Are you fucking ok
no
Do you have autism
I have not been OK for a long
long
time
lol
Xbox Nerds often tend to have Down syndrome and autism combined.
So do people who care about such things
Ok
ok retard
lol
@Local Doomguy One of your rebuttals could have been the percentiles of stabbings and beating in the UK. If the argument ever presents itself again.
I would have preferred that to be an actual point, but like I said, the whole thing was a cluster fuck. I actually wanted to include both that and the tyrannical governments argument (because you can't tell me the Wehrmacht wouldn't have had a harder time rounding up Jews if the Jews had guns), but we were only allowed four points.
Personally, I find that system stupid anyway, I'd rather an actual discussion around the issue than a series of two-minute how-fast-can-you-talk-fests.
