oppressed?

2019-10-30 00:00:50 UTC

I think that’s the right word

2019-10-30 00:01:10 UTC

they certainly wield undue power over the electorate

2019-10-30 00:01:30 UTC

you mean like the social tech corps?

2019-10-30 00:01:50 UTC

Not only that but certainly yes

2019-10-30 00:02:21 UTC

oppressing who tho? ... their users/product?

2019-10-30 00:02:32 UTC

the electorate

2019-10-30 00:02:36 UTC

the citizenry

2019-10-30 00:02:40 UTC

so their product

2019-10-30 00:02:44 UTC

no

2019-10-30 00:02:55 UTC

Society as a Whole of say

2019-10-30 00:03:14 UTC

the people who use social media are their product.... which they sell

2019-10-30 00:03:43 UTC

Have you not heard of corporate political meddling

2019-10-30 00:03:56 UTC

you mean like lobbying?

2019-10-30 00:03:58 UTC

And companies are free to ban what they want it doesn’t mean they should

2019-10-30 00:04:05 UTC

Lobbying that’s the word lmfao

2019-10-30 00:04:08 UTC

in part lobbying

2019-10-30 00:04:25 UTC

when political parties prioritise the needs of corporations above the electorate

2019-10-30 00:05:00 UTC

Only way to combat bigmtech censorship is by using companies that don’t censor

2019-10-30 00:05:05 UTC

How the market works

2019-10-30 00:05:09 UTC

nope

2019-10-30 00:05:11 UTC

regulation

2019-10-30 00:05:25 UTC

Regulation sure

2019-10-30 00:05:31 UTC

Likema digital bill of,rights

2019-10-30 00:05:48 UTC

you dont really need regulation... at least not new regs

2019-10-30 00:05:48 UTC

and preventing them buying up companies that give them monopolies and vertical integration

2019-10-30 00:05:53 UTC

But I was talking about how to combat it right now

2019-10-30 00:07:01 UTC

just label them as platforms .... or if they chose to ban/block people then they are publishers, and everything on their website comes from them ... and they are responsible for every word

2019-10-30 00:07:26 UTC

Yep I agree label them all platforms

2019-10-30 00:07:35 UTC

no dont label them...

2019-10-30 00:07:41 UTC

thats authoritarian

2019-10-30 00:07:46 UTC

Thousands of hours of content uploaded every day its hard to call them publishers

2019-10-30 00:07:47 UTC

they should have the choice

2019-10-30 00:08:01 UTC

Oh yeah fair point

2019-10-30 00:09:34 UTC

I imagine sites like redit would grow... where they basically let the userbase rank things so what gets shown is pretty much up to the will of the crowd

2019-10-30 00:10:47 UTC

Well is that how it works now though

2019-10-30 00:11:43 UTC

sort of... except reddit can outright ban/suspend any subreddit.... Im no expert tho I dont use reddit

2019-10-30 00:13:20 UTC

Alright I don’t use it that often either, I don’t think reddit is that bad on censorship, it tends to ban subreddits where users incite violence, Reddit as a whole is very progressive left auth leaning, even none political subs

2019-10-30 00:13:56 UTC

Twitter and Facebook are the worst for banning people

2019-10-30 00:14:55 UTC

outside of social media corporate malfecance is an issue

2019-10-30 00:15:11 UTC

they agitate for open borders and worse pay+conditions, and don't pay taxes
