"Article 72. Each Union Republic shall retain the right freely to secede from the USSR."

2019-09-19 10:03:47 UTC

rofl

2019-09-19 10:04:20 UTC

So ... the USSR was more/as democratic as the EU?

2019-09-19 10:04:54 UTC

Same thing right?

2019-09-19 10:05:23 UTC

USSR, EU... both have similar structures.

2019-09-19 10:05:33 UTC

And ways of doing things.

2019-09-19 10:05:51 UTC

Of course ... the EU is a communist organisation, because communism = internationalism. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proletarian_internationalism https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Internationale

2019-09-19 10:06:11 UTC

no the USSR was more...free

2019-09-19 10:06:11 UTC

@wacka Well, that article 50 was totally correct. You had public buildings at your disposal and you could use the radio. Just be sure to tune in the proper stations and really, if you get arrested, it's only your fault <:pot_of_kek:544849795433496586>

2019-09-19 10:06:16 UTC

The EU isn’t communist silly

2019-09-19 10:06:18 UTC

observe...

2019-09-19 10:06:23 UTC

Nor is it undemocratic

2019-09-19 10:06:29 UTC

Article 80. A Union Republic has the right to enter into relations with other states, conclude treaties with them, exchange diplomatic and consular representatives, and take part in the work of international organisations.

2019-09-19 10:06:57 UTC

Article 81. The sovereign rights of Union Republics shall be safeguarded by the USSR.

2019-09-19 10:07:03 UTC

Hue. Am silly. I am offended, gunna call 999 and report a hate crime.

2019-09-19 10:07:55 UTC

the EU does not have an article 80

2019-09-19 10:08:04 UTC

we cannot make our own trade deals

2019-09-19 10:08:16 UTC

At one point, Czechoslovakia had a much better economy then the rest since inbetween wars it was like the fifth most developed country in Europe. The rest of Soviet Union couldn't catch up. Sooo they devaluated the currency overnight to like 30:1 and in larger amounts even more than that.

2019-09-19 10:09:01 UTC

Don't forget how the Czechs tried to prematurely get rid of communism and then got fucking slapped.

2019-09-19 10:09:02 UTC

Ummm ... the EU is NOT DEMOCRATIC ... and I quote Martin Schulz (former president of the EU parliament) for that as evidence. He once said "if the EU was a country applying for EU membership ... the application would have to be rejected due to lack of democratic substance." (my translation) https://www.welt.de/kultur/article119362024/EU-ist-ein-Mietshaus-mit-dreister-Erpresserkultur.html

2019-09-19 10:09:30 UTC

Hey Prometheus, Weez was being ironic.

2019-09-19 10:09:33 UTC

Just look at how Ursula von der Leyen became president recently ... all BACK DOOR DEALINGS IN SECRET.

2019-09-19 10:09:38 UTC

Right, yet it’s objective fact that we vote in free and open elections.

2019-09-19 10:09:56 UTC

But yeh.

2019-09-19 10:10:01 UTC

Well ... I am german ... so I tend to miss that.

2019-09-19 10:10:13 UTC

And that the people we vote in as our representatives, have power to change the course of the EU.

2019-09-19 10:10:16 UTC

You tend to miss a lot.

2019-09-19 10:10:17 UTC

at least the USSR had multiple people on their ballots 😛

2019-09-19 10:11:38 UTC

Article 95. Deputies to all Councils shall be elected on the basis of universal, equal, and direct suffrage by secret ballot.

2019-09-19 10:17:01 UTC

this is almost the same as article 17 of the treat of the EU...
"Article 110. The Council of the Union and the Council of Nationalities shall have equal numbers of deputies. The Council of the Union shall be elected by constituencies with equal populations. The Council of Nationalities shall be elected on the basis of the following representation: 32 deputies from each Union Republic, 11 deputies from each Autonomous Republic, five deputies from each Autonomous Region, and one deputy from each Autonomous Area. The Council of the Union and the Council of Nationalities, upon submission by the credentials commissions elected by them, shall decide on the validity of Deputies' credentials, and, in cases in which the election law has been violated, shall declare the election of the Deputies concerned null and void."

2019-09-19 10:33:41 UTC

2019-09-19 10:34:31 UTC

2019-09-19 10:37:33 UTC

When is the outcome decided?
Not for a few hours I suppose

2019-09-19 10:37:49 UTC

2019-09-19 10:38:12 UTC
