the problem with gold standard (at least if many countries apply it) is that the country with the most gold controls the worlds banks
its easier to crash the gold market than a currency
when greece defaulted its debt in around 2014 I remember I had a gold long order ... and it crashed the gold market
I switched to short and made about 10k over night
because the EU demanded they sell assets and gold reserves
brown gave away most of our gold
