dream big @Brokkr Dream big

2019-09-22 02:21:11 UTC

Yeah, right? Tired of apartment life. Gotta make the transition. Want 10% down.

2019-09-22 02:21:29 UTC

No option to rent a house?

2019-09-22 02:21:41 UTC

It's a big investment. One you have to make wisely.

2019-09-22 02:21:43 UTC

Not rent-to-buy. Not in my area.

2019-09-22 02:21:51 UTC

Working with my bank.

2019-09-22 02:22:01 UTC

I haven't even crossed that bridge yet.

2019-09-22 02:22:07 UTC

Looking at foreclosures in a 200 mile area.

2019-09-22 02:22:33 UTC

Dang, I lucked out and I'm renting a house my dad inherited. They want me here because it's right next door to my grandma so I can help out

2019-09-22 02:22:46 UTC

It's hard to justify buying an entire house in my position. I know it's a good investment but not having a house gives me a lot of flexibility in the job market.

2019-09-22 02:22:47 UTC

Yeah.

2019-09-22 02:23:23 UTC

@randomNPCno3 That is fucking lucky. Appreciate your family man because that's a sweet fucking deal

2019-09-22 02:23:27 UTC

Is it in a good location?

2019-09-22 02:23:54 UTC

Highest hill in town with a sweet view of the bay

2019-09-22 02:24:06 UTC

5min from downtown

2019-09-22 02:24:13 UTC

👌

2019-09-22 02:24:24 UTC

Wow. We've got some lucky bastards among us folks

2019-09-22 02:24:34 UTC

They can kick me out of this place over my dead body

2019-09-22 02:24:42 UTC

Highest hill is the best hill to die on.

2019-09-22 02:25:10 UTC

It's also easier to defend high ground. Great strategy all around

2019-09-22 02:25:11 UTC

Indeed, @nimble_newt. One of the greatest benefits to renting is you pay less over the course of your lifetime, given you no longer have to reinvest into the asset to maintain market-value, not to mention the gain of labor mobility, able to move at the drop of a dime, something one can't do with a house.

2019-09-22 02:25:48 UTC

Yep. Col. Chamberlain used that to his benefit.

2019-09-22 02:26:09 UTC

@Jeremy But there are benefits to investing in real estate. It can really pay off if you play your cards right and get a good location

2019-09-22 02:27:03 UTC

If you're in a financial situation congruent with a mid-career laborer or better.

2019-09-22 02:27:52 UTC

The world has changed a lot too. My first apartment had 2 bedrooms and was 350 a month. This apartment has one bedroom and is over 500.

2019-09-22 02:28:10 UTC

Oof

2019-09-22 02:28:24 UTC

Certainly the best way to do it is by purchasing the property, then renting it out to pay off most of the mortgage, while you live elsewhere. That is the best way to retain a property for personal use over the long-term.

2019-09-22 02:28:32 UTC

When I was younger, I considered living in an RV.

2019-09-22 02:28:52 UTC

Probably best you didn't

2019-09-22 02:29:16 UTC

They're treated like vehicles and never gain value

2019-09-22 02:29:25 UTC

Yeah.

2019-09-22 02:29:38 UTC

...but I'd have saved so much money on gas. LOL

2019-09-22 02:29:42 UTC

Yeah, a few years ago I was renting out a single bedroom, via sublease, for $650/mo. And, I had to share the apartment with the idiot upstairs.

2019-09-22 02:29:54 UTC

72 hour shift? That's cool. I'm already parked at work.

2019-09-22 02:30:34 UTC

Oh yeah. I've heard people complain about 10 hour shifts. I giggle.

2019-09-22 02:30:55 UTC

I've worked those before when I was on the docks, they're not too bad as long as you know it's coming

2019-09-22 02:31:05 UTC

That's true.

2019-09-22 02:31:34 UTC

I haven't worked a shift shorter than 10hrs ever, not that I can remember

2019-09-22 02:31:40 UTC

I'd pull a 72 every week. 3 days on, 4 off, 3 on, 4 off.

2019-09-22 02:31:53 UTC

Pay was good. Felt ragged after 6 months though.

2019-09-22 02:32:09 UTC

I like setting up my schedule for 2 15s and a 12, have most of the week off
