When I was 21 I considered moving from a warehouse job to working on a dock a step up in life. All mass shooters are mentally deficient in some way, because rational people don't decide that killing a bunch of random people loosely connected to the issue you're trying to get noticed a good idea.

@Ayylmao Curtail single-motherhood, and allow an earnest investigation into the effects of SSRI's on shootings, would be two things which could be done, other than arming schools. But generally, mass shootings aren't statistically enough of a variable in homicide to really lose too much sleep over. Most of them seem driven by people who have mental issues, a narcissistic streak, and a sense of purposelessness in life, attacking a target of opportunity, usually either a target rich environment, or an area where few people are expected to fight back, but usually both. Which is why schools and festivals are so common. Lots of people who probably won't fight back, and are unarmed, all in one place. There's generally also a sense of acute alienation from ones society involved. A failure to connect their parents generation, and often especially with their father. To an extent, it can perhaps be interpreted as an attempt to assume a masculine role, from someone who has a very unhealthy perspective of what masculinity is, or feels as if they have few alternatives.
It can, in my understanding, generally be summed up as an act of self-destruction from someone who is self-obsessed, and who hates themselves, but blames and hates the world for the fact that they hate themselves. So they can't just commit suicide normally.
