The opposition took control of parliament and forced through a bill that tied the prime ministers hands and forces him to ask the EU for an open-ended extension
Now they are refusing to allow him to call a general election
Only think Boris managed to do is "prorogue" parliament, i.e. put it on ice for 5 weeks
When they forced through the anti-no-deal bill, 21 Conservative MPs went rogue, so he booted them out of the party, which means he is a lame duck - he doesn't have a majority and cannot get -any- bills through
That should bring you up to speed, broadly

Let me be blunt
The longer the remainers spin this out, the more likely it is it will end in real life bloodshed

That's why i'm particularly annoyed at the remain establishment - they deliberately took an antagonistic approach to campaigning - the calling their opponents stupid etc, because they thought they would win, and in doing so they'd not need to make any concessions at all
And because they did it, then lost, that's why we're here
They don't seem to understand that you cannot have a second referendum at this point
