I read an article about racial bias in text recognition, and the authors claimed African American English is a legitimate offshoot that needs to be treated differently and given special rights, and to not do so is racist.

Perhaps what sociologists and psychologists have long understoood and proven time and time again: the creative and expressive use of language, careful choice of words and complexity of language used to accurately articulate an idea is a sign of intelligence
