2019-10-17 18:29:11 UTC

he asshole

2019-10-17 18:33:58 UTC

Anyone here who thinks that UBI or minimum wage actually solves anything? Just curious.

2019-10-17 18:34:23 UTC

sure

2019-10-17 18:34:27 UTC

it can solve certain things

2019-10-17 18:34:46 UTC

UBI is the only thing that will save us from the evils of technocratic capitalistic hegemony

2019-10-17 18:35:00 UTC

minimum wage is complicated because you can't just examine it as a blanket thing

2019-10-17 18:35:13 UTC

Well, capitalism fails without consumerism..

2019-10-17 18:35:16 UTC

it will have different effects depending on the specific rate it is set at

2019-10-17 18:35:46 UTC

robots will take every job and all people will be homeless corporate slaves

2019-10-17 18:35:47 UTC

Give people a slice of melon, while keeping the rest of the melon. That's UBI.

2019-10-17 18:35:55 UTC

unless you are a devil and capitalize on a commodity needed to live.

2019-10-17 18:36:25 UTC

UBI will work well in european states

2019-10-17 18:36:27 UTC

Without UBI there will be a 60+% homeless rate which will largely be the jobless rate as well

2019-10-17 18:36:29 UTC

It won't work in the USA

2019-10-17 18:36:38 UTC

i don't like ubi

2019-10-17 18:36:56 UTC

i'm not a big fan of minimum wage generally but i would be hesitant to get rid of it completely in america

2019-10-17 18:37:08 UTC

Bring in UBI and scrap minimum wage

2019-10-17 18:37:19 UTC

I mean it's definitely not like we've already gone through a hyper-mechanized overhaul of our economic system and ended up fine on the other side lol

2019-10-17 18:37:30 UTC

>tfw you have reached a level of trolling so meta that it goes unnoticed

2019-10-17 18:37:34 UTC

Or maybe I'm just bad at it

2019-10-17 18:37:50 UTC

in general i don't like outdoor relief

2019-10-17 18:37:52 UTC

But in all seriousness, UBI is addressing the problem incorrectly

2019-10-17 18:38:00 UTC

I love relieving myself outdoors

2019-10-17 18:38:16 UTC

And a minimum wage is a deadman's switch at this point

2019-10-17 18:38:22 UTC

UBI in the UK isn't giving anything new/extra, it's just a simplification and the making more fair of the existing tax/welfare system

2019-10-17 18:38:22 UTC

this is what i'm referring to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outdoor_relief

2019-10-17 18:38:58 UTC

It's already been rigged up so that if we remove it, it'll plunge the bottom level of labor to a pitiful level, but if we continue to raise it, it's just going to equivalently inflate our currency until it has been nullified

2019-10-17 18:39:26 UTC

We still need to supplement UBI with a meritocracy I feel, humans need competition, it's healthy and continues to see us develop.

2019-10-17 18:40:12 UTC

"supplement"? UBI doesn't remove meritocracy

2019-10-17 18:40:21 UTC

There ain't no better motivator then hunger or sexual desire.

2019-10-17 18:40:23 UTC

Ok, so there are some supporters. I'd like to ask you a question with one example in mind. Let's take DVD amd Blu ray sales. Or heck, why not video games.

Did you ever stop to consider why a particular film or game region locked so it will only play on devices in countries like Bangladesh cost almost three to four times less than the same game or movie region locked to Europe or the U.S?

2019-10-17 18:40:39 UTC

You can eliminate all homelessness, but then all you do is raise the baseline.

2019-10-17 18:40:41 UTC

The problem with a UBI is that it either will provide too much base and discourage low-level workers from entering the workforce, or it won't provide enough and will create a new generation of gov-dependent poverty

2019-10-17 18:41:23 UTC

For countries like the UK that have well-established multi-generations of people in gov-dependent poverty this isn't a problem

2019-10-17 18:41:38 UTC

And wouldn't discourage low-level workers entering the workforce

2019-10-17 18:41:43 UTC

(no more than now)

2019-10-17 18:41:52 UTC

probably because bangladesh is a poorer country?

2019-10-17 18:42:06 UTC

i'd assume

2019-10-17 18:42:25 UTC

Guaranteeing a thousand dollars a month just seems dumb to me.

2019-10-17 18:42:52 UTC

Assuming it's that high, which I doubt, then that's already what people get in welfare
