they havebeen 'trying' for decades

2019-10-17 19:23:24 UTC

and they will continue to 'try'

2019-10-17 19:23:24 UTC

@TheBadfish Only insofar as it jerks off the narrative, deviation will see you on the streets.

2019-10-17 19:23:34 UTC

And getting pretty close to it.

2019-10-17 19:23:46 UTC

YT is like TV just a app on your phone or computer. Using internet instead of cable, plus your phone is a mini TV anyway

2019-10-17 19:23:50 UTC

you say that but I am subbed to several people with quite varying opinions

2019-10-17 19:24:01 UTC

Who frequently disagree

2019-10-17 19:24:01 UTC

"with side jobs" likely

2019-10-17 19:24:04 UTC

systems like self-driving cars, maglev and flying cars aren't impossible when it comes to technical obstacles

2019-10-17 19:24:05 UTC

I have some also

2019-10-17 19:24:20 UTC

So if you think a YTer is not a real job you have to consider that maybe TV jobs aren’t real jobs

2019-10-17 19:24:20 UTC

those systems aren't fielded due to ECONOMIC issues regarding liability

2019-10-17 19:24:30 UTC

@TheBadfish I'm not "invalidating" it per se. But I would argue that in order for something to qualify as a job, then there has to be a tangible and predictable NEED in society for it. It has to fulfil a kind of function that society can't do without.

I don't think e-begging fulfils any vital function. And as far as that market goes, it's well over-saturated as it is. It doesn't have much room for more people to make a living off of it.

2019-10-17 19:24:38 UTC

they just can't be done economically

2019-10-17 19:24:52 UTC

they centralize far too much of the liability

2019-10-17 19:25:15 UTC

Not e-begging with no cause, but I would argue that many YTers (at least the ones I listen to/donate to) provide critical news and analysis which is a need for many people

2019-10-17 19:25:21 UTC

technical elements of any program are never the largest sources of cost

2019-10-17 19:25:35 UTC

@Snake Well in a sense, they're not.

Right now they might be jobs. Even being a youtuber. But think for a moment of the co-dependency of various industries that enables these jobs to actually create value.

2019-10-17 19:25:44 UTC

Why do youtubers make money?

2019-10-17 19:25:56 UTC

Why does adertisement make money?

2019-10-17 19:26:00 UTC

There's a difference between a hole putting sad pics on gofundme asking for tit surgery, and someone who builds a brand around news/analysis/commentary

2019-10-17 19:26:00 UTC

people give alot of shit away too

2019-10-17 19:26:11 UTC

memes are an expression of that

2019-10-17 19:26:22 UTC

so is the whole internet business model

2019-10-17 19:26:35 UTC

none of us paid for a discord account or gmail

2019-10-17 19:26:43 UTC

why not?

2019-10-17 19:26:46 UTC

Ironic, listening to Tim Pool talking about his deviation from the narrative right now and how it'll be fine if/when he will have to live in a fucking van, dude is 33 years old, should be worried more about a family and putting money in his children's tuition fund- yet here we are.

2019-10-17 19:26:49 UTC

that isn't capitalism

2019-10-17 19:26:56 UTC

@ManAnimal No, but we're not the customers of gmail or discord. We're their product.

2019-10-17 19:27:11 UTC

correct

2019-10-17 19:27:32 UTC

but we are consumers

2019-10-17 19:27:39 UTC

just not customers

2019-10-17 19:27:53 UTC

hence the caveat

2019-10-17 19:28:21 UTC

@ManAnimal Nope, we're not consumers of discord or gmail. Either, we're only product because discord and google makes money of our usage of gmail and discord through advertisement, selling our data, search history etc. etc.

2019-10-17 19:28:22 UTC

2019-10-17 19:28:40 UTC

Tbh Tim is no better than the dino media

2019-10-17 19:28:46 UTC

Seven, we buy from the companies that pay discord and gmail

2019-10-17 19:28:58 UTC

so we most certainly are

2019-10-17 19:29:06 UTC

and data is not money
