Also, I mean come on they'll get a deal with Canada that'll put them within inches of an integrated market.

2019-08-27 20:30:08 UTC

Even if they don't get deals from American and Canada (which they will) trading on WTO standard with all the other countries is a better deal than anything the EU is offering

2019-08-27 20:31:39 UTC

idk, not my problem🤷

2019-08-27 21:03:48 UTC

The trade deal hasn't even been negotiated yet, so how can you say that? @randomNPCno3

2019-08-27 21:04:32 UTC

The ideal is: Free trade so that goods can move with as little friction as possible from A to B.

2019-08-27 21:04:42 UTC

WTO adds tariffs in the way, increasing the costs of those goods

2019-08-27 21:29:51 UTC

And the EU won't add tariffs if the UK does a hard Brexit?

2019-08-27 21:31:18 UTC

The UK will be trading with the EU on WTO rules

2019-08-27 21:32:27 UTC

Didn't you say like...3 hours ago that the EU would place tariffs on UK goods?

2019-08-27 21:32:35 UTC

Yes

2019-08-27 21:32:37 UTC

Through the WTO

2019-08-27 21:32:38 UTC

or by "they" were you referring to the WTO?

2019-08-27 21:32:49 UTC

Yeah, I should have been clearer

2019-08-27 21:32:55 UTC

The WTO

2019-08-27 21:33:16 UTC

Sounds like the EU would be throwing a bit of a tantrum

2019-08-27 21:33:22 UTC

alternatively, sounds like a spiteful GF

2019-08-27 21:33:41 UTC

🤷🏻

2019-08-27 21:33:41 UTC

Spiteful for sure, but justified tbh

2019-08-27 21:33:54 UTC

How so?

2019-08-27 21:34:05 UTC

We didn't honour our agreements

2019-08-27 21:34:11 UTC

Which ones?

2019-08-27 21:34:11 UTC

Why should we be treaded any differently?

2019-08-27 21:34:22 UTC

WTO rules don't regulate or tax you. Pretty easy to make up the difference.

2019-08-27 21:34:40 UTC

In regards to the 'divorce bill'

2019-08-27 21:35:32 UTC

how so?

2019-08-27 21:36:33 UTC

Currently as a member, we need to keep paying into the budget

2019-08-27 21:36:50 UTC

There's the pensions which we will need to pay our end of

2019-08-27 21:37:34 UTC

And, as I pointed out before, losing access to UK markets is a substantial hit to German GDP. Bearing in mind their already in negative bond yields.....

2019-08-27 21:37:56 UTC

Well, the EU isn't Germany

2019-08-27 21:38:02 UTC

Though the Germans have influence in it

2019-08-27 21:38:16 UTC

Isn't the EU mostly funded by Germany?

2019-08-27 21:39:07 UTC

It might be 20 percent of the budget?

2019-08-27 21:39:08 UTC

Tops

2019-08-27 21:39:08 UTC

Isn't Germany the largest economy in the EU?

2019-08-27 21:39:46 UTC

True, but the EU is made up of more member states, with combined have more power than Germany

2019-08-27 21:40:30 UTC

Here's some things we'll be forced to pay money for

2019-08-27 21:41:26 UTC

Oh I agree that the EU can shiv Germany by taking punitive action against the UK. That's not going to change the economics of a recession in the largest economy....

2019-08-27 21:41:54 UTC

True

2019-08-27 21:42:24 UTC

There's quite a bit of speculation around either a global recession or a EU regional one
