School teaches you to sit still and listen and remember thing x.

Classmates of mine got penaluhed cuz they didn't go the path they were supposed to, even though they got to the same result

Schools are an exercise in authority, it teaches kids that this is the correct way to live life as they grow up

Sit and listen, sit and listen

I seem to recall I solved a math problem in a way that was alternative to how the teacher wanted it solved and my parents chewed him out for giving it a poor grade

It used to be a meaningful exercise when factory jobs were everywhere

But those days are long gone

apparently the conclusion was correct, the teacher just "didn't like" how I solved it

Yeah, that's also my experience

It's about exercising authority, not actually teaching thinking and learning and surviving

Yeah, the“own way“ is but a thorn in the side of,the curriculum

The problem is, young adults aren't concluding the correct things from their experience

They think it's alright because they were thoroughly brainwashed

So they don't revolt against this system

Even if they hated it

They conclude "I shouldn't have to pay my student debt"

Instead of "what we were taught was trash"

Why? Because the former feels so much better than the latter

Selfishness

PS: I'm not saying all students learned trash

It's about the bigger picture. The decline of education.

Whereas learning by exploring and explaining results in 70%+ retention rate

So quite literally, whenever teachers "punish" students for not "behaving" (sitting still and listening, i.e. wasting their time), what do they do? They dictate things to the students, and the students are only allowed to do what? Sit still and write, not even getting enough time to *listen.*

So the retention rate goes from 5-10% to roughly 0%
