first it's a herbivore which means it's not gonna get any use from canines, and then you need to realize that how many adult deer do you see with canines. not many right?

In this species you have two teeth growing backwards and protruding through the top
the large cannines are pointing dowards so it's much easier to protect it with a skin/fat flap rather then the upwards tusks

also @Uksio that hog is one of the worst examples of a creature with tusks since if not broken or used those tusks will grow to eventually pierce its skull and bore straight to its brain killing it
