People who aren’t in my family or community
Not always barbaric, that depends on the doctor. But definitely archaic
Well it should always be done in a sterilized advanced medical facility. Always. I think given what we know about bacteria... etc the importance of sanitation, this view doesn’t seem as subjective to me
Now a big thing I wonder. Is if I ever had children what would I do?
Shhheeett... I have no idea lol like I said I’m torn
Just don't, what do you reasonably gain from it other than "his looks like mine"
Hating FGM in Islam and being circumcised is one of those things that cause cognitive dissonance and I’m not sure what to do about it ... and idk I’d have to look more into the life long effects of it
Does it make you naturally more resistant to pain? Is this a bad thing or good thing,.. idk lol I don’t know the data on this
Then again when my parents did this they didn’t obsess over the data
Is that not a post modern way of viewing this
Supposedly desensitization, but I've never heard an account from someone who experienced both. So it's all subjective
There's no real proof to any of it's benefits or detriments. Just whether they're cut or not. So the only decision that you actually have to struggle with if you only care about decisions with facts behind it is wether to snip the tip or leave it alone. If you're uncomfortable with the idea of someone snipping a piece of your child off right after birth, then don't do it.
If it doesn't bug you than it doesn't bug you
See to me... hmm I’d imagine if I didn’t my parents would be like... “ehh why bruh”
So I’d have to have a reasonable explanation as to why I didn’t to some degree
So you'd do it because you cave to social pressure?
Even for just my self.. really
I like to try and understand what’s behind decisions
So if I pick one or the other I’d have to have some kind of... idk... foundation to the decision
If someone asks why you're against circumcision just ask why they're for it. No one has an answer outside of religion
And it’s like.... hmm one decision is like.. well I didn’t do it because strangers who aren’t in my family made fun of it or viewed it as bad. And the other choice is like... I did it because it’s been done for hundreds of years in my lineage
I mean in General the idea of any form of permanent purely cosmetic surgery on an infant tends to be a violation of the right to bodily autonomy no?
Everyone being an individual with all this freedom and autonomy is a new concept.
Relatively new.
You said you where Christian, this is a provably false thing. Non Jewish/Muslim circumcision hasn't even been around for 100yrs
Oh really
Hmm..
Started by some fuckwit trying to stop masturbation, remember?
Idk maaaannn it seems rather subjective to me still but that might just be bias.
The largest push in the global effort came with the aids epidemic with it being used to try and reduce its spread (and promptly making it worse)
Im thinking. I can choose to either view the choice my parents made as being the wrong choice or not, in this case so... hmm idk I’m on the fence really. I don’t view it as the wrong decision and we said earlier the differences between those who are and aren’t seems subjective really. How do you know what the other way is like
Cuz I’m not having sex with people who have aids
Lol
Not wrong, just wrong today. We know better now
Do we really
What evidence is there
We know it's pointless outside religion
How do we know that though
And can we trust studies or narratives to not be edited by the corrupted academia
By it not making any difference to thousands of men's lives so far.
This is a question as well
