I mean, subsidies

2019-11-29 07:00:15 UTC

though that only explains the banks bit

2019-11-29 07:02:28 UTC

I mean after FDR started taking us off the gold standard and Nixon fucked it permanently all money only has value because a set of government computers say it does

@UltimateAgent25 How DARE YOU steal ~~her~~ his ~~childhood~~ future!

I mean, who does not like open market operations. Let’s keep purchasing bonds and injecting the money supply, sure that will help a ton. I think I read somewhere that the fed dumped another 100 billion this past week

2019-11-29 16:40:29 UTC

Space Marines

2019-11-29 16:45:24 UTC

I think it was an old slang word for sailors

2019-11-29 16:47:44 UTC

specifically, british sailors.
short for "lime-juicer", for the practice of putting lime juice in their daily grog to keep away scurvy.

2019-11-29 16:48:20 UTC

Ah it's an insult aimed towards Anglos

2019-11-29 16:49:27 UTC

funny thing is, the brits used to use lemons; but switched to limes cuz that's what was grown in the colonies (and just thought "citrus is citrus") .... but limes don't contain vitamin-c, so they still got scurvy <:pepelaugh:544857300179877898>

2019-11-29 16:55:06 UTC

Limes have 19.5mg of vitamin C, they got scurvy because they started processing the limes into a weird tablet that was supposed to be just the scurvy preventing bit of the lime, but ironically the process stripped almost all of the vitamin C out. Scientists were allot more optimistic and had Allot more trust back then

2019-11-29 17:10:03 UTC

Cyborg sailors? Heh. Put a bit more meaning into being rusty with all that salt air.
