The Holy Spirit convicts us of sin, so that we will take it seriously and repent, if we have no conviction of our sin, it's the hallmark of a reprobate mind that is fully lost.
if it's a guilt that you cannot get past even after repenting to God in Jesus' name and turning away from that sin/lifestyle, then yes, that would be torment to keep you in the past... give it all to Jesus He said come to Me all who are weary and heavy-burdened and I will give you rest. Another part of the Scripture says to cast all your cares upon Him who careth for you. ❤
As many as I might love, I rebuke and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone should hear My voice and open the door, then I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me. Revelation 3:19-20

If you are struggling with guilt, something you have repented of and turned your back to but still feel guilty about, here are some verses:

Praying is very important, whether you do it out loud or silently
we're told to pray unceasingly, most of my prayer is silent
I pray with my family etc out loud, if someone asks me to pray with them, I pray out loud
sometimes I pray outloud when I'm by myself
I feel like a lot of the time people who pray out loud in prayer circles and stuff like that do it from pride
Anything like that can have that potential, the Pharisees did it and the Lord rebuked them for it, though they would do it in the streets to look righteous, if it's a group of believers alone in a room, ya know, then it's less likely to be about pride
but even then ya know

the enemy will tempt us in any way he/they can tempt us
so we need to keep a tight reign on our heart and tongue
I just feel like the same voice that Jesse says is the devil is the one that is praying you know the voice you talk to yourself with
It is possible to have your inner voices confounded, it's true
it helps demons implant thoughts too, and make you think it was your own thought
come against it in prayer in Jesus' name, rebuke it in Jesus name
stay true to the Gospel, it is really really important to stay close to the Word, the Bible itself is a miracle and the primary way God speaks to His people
Jesus used the Scripture against the devil in the wilderness, as a lesson to us
