Is a baby sentient? When is that determined?

2019-11-11 04:06:13 UTC

To know when something starts you must first be able to define it

2019-11-11 04:06:20 UTC

I am speaking in the aggregate here

2019-11-11 04:06:34 UTC

We cannot define sentience, let alone intelligence

2019-11-11 04:06:39 UTC

Are those who are cripplingly retarded sentient

2019-11-11 04:06:42 UTC

@Marushia Dark That is absolutely incorrect. We have absolutely no way of testing for the sentience of a fetus.

2019-11-11 04:06:52 UTC

TBH the correct argument would be abortion OK before 4 years because they have no memory until 4 years

2019-11-11 04:06:56 UTC

@Hexidecimark can't we?

2019-11-11 04:07:09 UTC

In a limited way. Like most things. Especially on here. It is a spectrum

2019-11-11 04:07:11 UTC

and that's post birth abortion

2019-11-11 04:07:38 UTC

Binary thinkers cannot understand

2019-11-11 04:07:40 UTC

I seriously don't see the difference between killing a fetus and killing a 3 year old

2019-11-11 04:07:49 UTC

What I’m saying is that it’s impossible for any kind of sentience to exist before 4 weeks, as there is no brain for that sentience to reside in.

After four weeks, we just can’t know. Err on the side of not-murder.

2019-11-11 04:08:08 UTC

We really can't

2019-11-11 04:08:55 UTC

If we could find a singular definition for either they'd both be simpler to recreate mechanically

2019-11-11 04:09:03 UTC

Laws allow very little wiggle room, it's illegal or legal, things can be legal and immoral or illegal and moral, but the legality of the issue is what we are discussing, so we must be precise and binary to that end

2019-11-11 04:09:06 UTC

I often say that the law can't rule on what science and philosophy can't answer. If we can't tell what is sentience and when it occurs, then it's morally ambiguous

2019-11-11 04:09:13 UTC

typically it takes 2 weeks to find out if youre pregnant via tests

2019-11-11 04:09:16 UTC

Aside from Joker, were there any good movies this year?

2019-11-11 04:09:36 UTC

@Marushia Dark I think ShimSham has you here

2019-11-11 04:09:39 UTC

The last jedi was pretty funny

2019-11-11 04:09:40 UTC

so.. that leaves max 2 weeks to abort... which doesnt seem right

2019-11-11 04:09:43 UTC

@Marushia Dark And so, id rather err on the side of not murdering someone.

2019-11-11 04:09:48 UTC

I literally just agreed with him, Roe

2019-11-11 04:09:48 UTC

@ShimShamWhamBam that was 2017 not 2019

2019-11-11 04:09:51 UTC

or easy

2019-11-11 04:09:57 UTC

Consciousness is the biproduct of a of a working brain. A property like H20's "wetness".

2019-11-11 04:10:14 UTC

Nope

2019-11-11 04:10:18 UTC

@Marushia Dark He literally isn't even arguing with your small brained position

2019-11-11 04:10:22 UTC

@Win Roe wow that felt like yesterday

2019-11-11 04:10:27 UTC

IKR

2019-11-11 04:10:40 UTC

it's because it's so bad people are still finding things to dislike about it

2019-11-11 04:10:46 UTC

Lol

2019-11-11 04:10:47 UTC

It is an emergent property

2019-11-11 04:10:48 UTC

You can have a working neural system without consciousness

2019-11-11 04:10:52 UTC

watching breaking bad first time through and saul goodman is the best

2019-11-11 04:10:53 UTC

tbh

2019-11-11 04:11:04 UTC

@Caeser true

2019-11-11 04:11:10 UTC

lol yea

2019-11-11 04:11:18 UTC

But, again, any legislation would be aimed at doctors, not mothers.

It would be illegal for a doctor to *provide* an abortion.

It wouldn’t be illegal for a mother to seek one.
