If you ask some in this server, “Russia is nothing, they’re not a threat to us”.

2019-09-15 10:44:58 UTC

Depends what you mean by threat

2019-09-15 10:45:23 UTC

The main threat they pose is that of a nation which cannot be moved.

2019-09-15 10:45:50 UTC

They can't be invaded and are very resistant to subversion, as they themselves wrote the book on it

2019-09-15 10:46:12 UTC

So in those terms they are a threat to the US in a non-conventional sense.

2019-09-15 10:46:25 UTC

But in a conventional sense they are not a threat at all

2019-09-15 10:49:12 UTC

And on top of that Putin has his own political problems in Russia, and while Russia is still a player in world politics, it's not the power house it used to be.

2019-09-15 12:46:23 UTC

Well they are a threat to their neighbors........

2019-09-15 13:47:15 UTC

@Comando The Russians aren't trying to win by force, they are trying to starve you out of your financial and military power.

2019-09-15 13:47:42 UTC

Slowly starve you out of your resources and the respect for you.

2019-09-15 13:54:14 UTC

It's their long term plan.

2019-09-15 14:03:11 UTC

Again seem like a bad plan. They're a petrostate and that's a resource the US can surpass them in. Not only do they have less economic and military power but they are also in demographic decline. So that model is dependent on the leadership in Russia being very stupid.....

2019-09-15 14:03:42 UTC

Not stupid.

2019-09-15 14:03:56 UTC

Narcissistic.

2019-09-15 14:04:01 UTC

Greedy.

2019-09-15 14:04:04 UTC

Proud.

2019-09-15 14:04:11 UTC

Those sort of things.

2019-09-15 14:07:29 UTC

The problem is that any time the US gets weaker, they will give it a try and now is such a time, and they are giving it a try and they are actually winning.

2019-09-15 14:08:17 UTC

But the problem is that the new American administration is just fine with it as long as the Russians aren't a direct threat to them.

2019-09-15 14:08:50 UTC

But once time passes and Kremlin has the chance to actually expand its influence enough it WILL become a problem.

2019-09-15 14:08:59 UTC

But by that time it would be too late.

2019-09-15 14:43:01 UTC

But the US is not getting weaker, Russia is. Maybe I have a higher opinion of the Russian leadership than you do? I think they can read a map. I think they can do math.

2019-09-15 14:43:24 UTC

In what way is the USA getting stronger and Russia weaker?

2019-09-15 14:43:48 UTC

Syria, Venezuela, what's next?

2019-09-15 14:43:52 UTC

Turkey?

2019-09-15 14:44:16 UTC

Hong Kong?

2019-09-15 14:44:21 UTC

Who knows?

2019-09-15 14:44:55 UTC

The thing is Russia has its ways of always testing the level of commitment the Americans are willing to go to.

2019-09-15 14:45:10 UTC

And when they see the Americans loosing their shit,

2019-09-15 14:45:15 UTC

they DO act.

2019-09-15 14:45:22 UTC

Like their doing nowadays.

2019-09-15 14:45:55 UTC

Actually Russia knows it can't win an open war.

2019-09-15 14:46:12 UTC

Define 'winning'

2019-09-15 14:46:32 UTC

It could 'win' in the Baltics.

2019-09-15 14:47:03 UTC

That's why instead of trying to win by force they are trying to rally as many countries, tribes and soever as allies against America, rather than try to fight them directly.

2019-09-15 14:47:33 UTC

And then, when the Yankees come to reclaim the price to show up with a minimum amount of force.

2019-09-15 14:47:56 UTC

Not so much as to trigger a war, but just enough to deny American influence in the region.

2019-09-15 14:48:16 UTC

@Weez Yeah, the Baltics could be a win, if they play it right.

2019-09-15 14:48:31 UTC

Blitz in, then hold until the UN intervenes

2019-09-15 14:48:39 UTC

Threaten to go nuclear to protect your new territory

2019-09-15 14:48:41 UTC

Question there is how gay would the EU be and would the Americans really act if triggered?
