I love it when talking to the 15$/h minimum wage dweebs they all talk about how hard they work and 97% of the time I get to laugh at them.

putting aside the folly of a sharp wage hike, considering the 40 hour work week has essentially been established as the norm in this country (after decades of squabbling between labour unions and government departments) shouldn't making rent, food and utilities be the minimum expectation?

It is the impetus of the worker to attain a level of employment necessary to suit their desired lifestyle. If you can't afford how you're living, change your lifestyle or change your job. Nobody owes you shit, and I *guarantee* you're not living below the poverty line. You'd probably have more free money on hand if you did, considering the prevalence of welfare and social entitlement programs at this point.

Only 20% of people working the minimum wage are living in under the poverty line, in fact according to the buraeu of labor statistics most people who work the minimum wage are teenagers and young students, the vast majority of the people working for minimum wage are not even working full time.
If you want to be able to afford rent and utilities get a room mate. If you are trying to support a family on a minimum wage job that is entirely your own fault and other people are not responsible for your poor life decisions.
