this is my first time hearing of Grenadia
grenada is a fairly small island in the caribbean
in 1979 the People's Revolutionary Government, led by bishop, overthrew the old government and began marxist-leninist reforms
in 3 years they cut poverty from 50% to 14%
literacy went from 65% to 95%
what is their economy, wiki isn't helping
here's a good summary
the economy had a 10% growth rate during the 4 years that the PRG was in power
agriculture had a heavily cooperative focus
there was also a campaign to get women more involved in the economy
bishop refused to hold elections, but he expressed that this was because of the local democratic organization, which was immensely popular and ongoing
and this was all in the face of constant attack and harassment from the USA
forward ever, backwards never!
I've always help the belief that different ideology/economies can only work under certain conditions/cultures and that there isn't a one-size fit all economy that works best for every nation.
But what I'm trying to figure out is if the nations growth, in what seems like literacy and decline in poverty, is because of the revolution or because less corrupt people were put into power.
might've been both, the vanguard structure with the right people in power can make good changes very quickly
and yeah, I agree that pragmatism is important
Projection the movie
Out now
