@Apollo'sJest I think that's an intellectually sneaky way to try an equate monarchy and democracy. The process of belief may be the same, but that doesn't mean the subjects of belief (monarchy vs democracry) are equal

2017-08-22 15:41:57 UTC

@DessertBeagle#1454 I'm not saying they are. My qustion is *specifically* about the level of political consciousness of the "masses".

2017-08-22 15:42:25 UTC

I know it sounds a bit like I'm trying to subvert people but I'm really not

2017-08-22 15:42:47 UTC

I don't do politics as such, I just like to discuss ideology

2017-08-22 15:43:20 UTC

Any Germans 'round? I wonder if someone could red pill me on a sroty I heard 'bout one Michael Stürzenberger who apparently got condemned for 6 monts of prison time for some blogging he did?

2017-08-22 15:43:31 UTC

I would be hesitant to equate an illiterate serf with a modern first world person in terms of thinking. But I think humans have a tendency to think 'the way things are now are for the best'

2017-08-22 15:44:19 UTC

I'm not equating them in general, just asking about one specific aspect of their convictions.

2017-08-22 15:46:30 UTC

as I said, *in terms of [their] thinking*. It's making a decision based on faith versus an educated decision based on reason.

2017-08-22 15:47:19 UTC

but humans have a tendency towards inertia

2017-08-22 15:47:42 UTC

Yeah but are people nowadays really making an educated decision based on reason about this issue? Or are they just repeting the status quo's one size fits all cliche arguments without really thinking 'bout them?

2017-08-22 15:51:19 UTC

I don't think most people spend too much time considering alternate forms of governance. I think they have more immediate concerns and are just happy when things are going well

2017-08-22 15:51:35 UTC

I would agree

2017-08-22 15:51:50 UTC

S'a matter of time investment

2017-08-22 15:52:06 UTC

but I wouldn't tie that in to a peasant's belief that the king rules because of God's plan or whatever

2017-08-22 15:52:07 UTC

S'more beneficial to invest your time elswhere - objectivley so.

2017-08-22 15:52:20 UTC

why not?

2017-08-22 15:52:29 UTC

Isn't it functionally the same?

2017-08-22 15:53:55 UTC

in the 'serf' belief, order is imposed by above from God. Not only would it be useless to struggle against God, but it's sinful. You do your part and suffer on this earth and maybe you'll be rewarded in the end.
In the modern belief, man has chosen his rulers (that's the belief at least). They can be replaced and it would be possible for us to choose a different form of government, in theory.

2017-08-22 15:54:38 UTC

so I think it comes down to 'thats how god has decreed it' to 'thats the best way to do things'.

2017-08-22 15:54:55 UTC

but it's stll a belief

2017-08-22 15:55:09 UTC

a dogmatic one

2017-08-22 15:55:19 UTC

belief motivated by immutable external agency vs belief motivated by reason

2017-08-22 15:55:38 UTC

you may say the reasons are weak, but they're more reason than 'god says so'

2017-08-22 15:55:46 UTC

how is it motivated by reason in the case of the common man that has not actually thought it through?

2017-08-22 15:56:12 UTC

I think there is reason there, even if it's not at the political theorist level

2017-08-22 15:58:23 UTC

how so? What I see is an authoroty figure (like a teacher) or an authority structure (like the political elite for instance) telling people taht this is the way to go and that's it. The fact that they pretend to use arguments in their social pressuring of people to comply with the status quo doesn't make them beter from priests who's argument is "God said so" as far as I can tell. They are stil using the same social pressure mechanism.

2017-08-22 15:59:11 UTC

you can't reason with god. that is beyond reason.

2017-08-22 15:59:21 UTC

Sure

2017-08-22 15:59:39 UTC

you can reason with a form of government that humans have chosen to empower humans. In fact, democracy invites you to reason and try and improve things

2017-08-22 15:59:47 UTC

anyways I have to run 👋

2017-08-22 16:00:00 UTC

You could theoreticallty argue with the modern authorities on statecraft but you could only do it in theory

2017-08-22 16:00:04 UTC

cya

2017-08-22 17:00:33 UTC

Lol how fucking retarded does a human need to be to support communism?
