No doubt. I actually worked as an unarmed security guard for a few months before the company I worked for filed for bankruptcy. I did residential and commercial security.

2017-12-05 10:43:53 UTC

my job is to pretty much protecting the boss from workers breaking the rules but my boss is a dude who exploits people who are the lowest economically in society felons and immigrants

2017-12-05 10:44:31 UTC

yeah my job is pretty much chill except for random people walking in off the streets who might be a little bit crazy

2017-12-05 10:44:44 UTC

Yeah, sounds like a few managers I've encountered in the past.

2017-12-05 10:45:18 UTC

I dealt with crazy as well when I worked in a guard house, lol.

2017-12-05 10:45:23 UTC

it is hard to organize at my work because it is people who are afraid to lose their job because this is their last chance in american society, if they lose this paycheck it could destroy them

2017-12-05 10:45:55 UTC

I am afraid of losing my job for my politics despite not being very radical

2017-12-05 10:46:52 UTC

I work in agriculture and the laws are set up to strip rights from the poorest people in society, like in agriculture you don't have to pay overtime for overtime work you just get the standard rate

2017-12-05 10:46:58 UTC

Yeah, that's always a rough situation. If you're genuinely committed to making a change, the best thing to do would be to contact an organization like the IWW who have professional organizers that may be able to assist you in your endeavors.

2017-12-05 10:47:55 UTC

I have been homeless and had to sleep on my friends and families floor and couches I just fear other workers are so used to the exploitation they are afraid to speak up and demand better treatment and pay

2017-12-05 10:47:55 UTC

I'm actually a former Wobblie lol.

2017-12-05 10:48:26 UTC

I'm still technically a member, just not a due-paying one. Haha

2017-12-05 10:48:38 UTC

I have a leftist friend that gave me some iww pins actually

2017-12-05 10:48:43 UTC

And I hear ya. Your apprehension is totally understandable.

2017-12-05 10:50:07 UTC

I just get frustrated because the boss treats these immigrants like dirt and totally disposable while lots of people in american society blame them for things that are really symptoms of the failure of capitalism

2017-12-05 10:51:49 UTC

it is weird because I talk with my coworkers who are fed up with how the company acts like they stopped doing hazard pay, night differential, any type of retirement plan, and skirt labor laws that normally apply because it is agriculture

2017-12-05 10:52:06 UTC

Yeah, I live and work in a community with a large immigrant population and I've seen first hand the mistreatment they are subjected to on a daily basis. It's disgusting, and has served to re-enforce my ideological sympathies.

2017-12-05 10:52:41 UTC

I feel I have it really good compared to them because they are such in a precarious situation

2017-12-05 10:52:56 UTC

The thing is though, capitalism isn't failing, it's working exactly as it should.. which is not in the interests of the majority.

2017-12-05 10:52:59 UTC

may i ask how the immigrants are treated by your bosses

2017-12-05 10:54:21 UTC

pretty much they work super long hours until the work is done, the managers yell and curse at them I had one old man go home crying, normal labor laws don't apply so you get the strandard rate despite working overtime, they only provide holiday pay for 8 hours of work ever though people work 12 hours or more

2017-12-05 10:55:15 UTC

have you spoke to them about this?

2017-12-05 10:55:17 UTC

After high school, I worked for a local fast food joint and most of my coworkers were minorities. I witnessed my manager yell and spit on an old Mexican lady before smacking food out of her hand that she was going to feed her family with. Her crime? Taking food that would have otherwise been thrown directly into the garbage.

2017-12-05 10:55:43 UTC

i'm not sure this is a product of xenophobia or racism though

2017-12-05 10:55:49 UTC

if they were white it would be no different

2017-12-05 10:56:08 UTC

i think the issue is just how poor these people are and being forced to work long hours

2017-12-05 10:56:21 UTC

and i agree there is a problem with the wealth inequality

2017-12-05 10:56:44 UTC

No, it wouldn't have. She was treated especially harshly due to her immigrant status. I even heard him use a racial slur behind her back. The guy was a racist piece of horseshit.

2017-12-05 10:56:48 UTC

the conditions of work are dangerous people have been seriously injured by EPJS, forklifts, and falling stacks. One dude from the Philippines has had his leg crushed by a stack that collapsed on him now his suffers from nerve pain and is lame they keep him on part time light duty to keep him from filing

2017-12-05 10:57:11 UTC

alright so how do you propose we fix this mess

2017-12-05 10:57:24 UTC

i dont think the solution is to generalize all employers as being racist greedy pigs

2017-12-05 10:57:31 UTC

because that is clearly not the answer

2017-12-05 10:58:14 UTC

I of course called him out on his shit, and even attempted to organize my coworkers, but was ultimately fired. I wasn't as knowledgeable then as I am now and didn't approach the organization process properly.

2017-12-05 10:58:15 UTC

I am not sure what to do I think my coworkers are happy enough with the situation because it is much better than the work they get back home

2017-12-05 10:58:44 UTC

you see the idea behind capitalism is that people would just move to a different employer, or go on strike

2017-12-05 10:59:00 UTC

if you and your workers are being treated like this it's YOUR responsibility to stand up to your boss

2017-12-05 10:59:11 UTC

he will give you what you want

2017-12-05 10:59:20 UTC

without you, he's nothing

2017-12-05 10:59:21 UTC

Did I succeed in raising morale and bringing my fellow workers to my side? Definitely. I did a good thing and even though I went in half-cocked, I'm still proud of myself for taking that stand.

2017-12-05 10:59:22 UTC

like many of the people there are happy to work there because they get payed way more than they get payed back home but the laws are in favor of the farm owners and not the farm workers because the workers are poor immigrants with little political power and the owners are comically wealthy
