Well you're assuming there would be some sort cabinet or national body, direct democracy operates on a small decentralized scale

2019-07-16 20:59:35 UTC

There is no head or central leader

2019-07-16 20:59:43 UTC

Alright, so like in comunities basically?

2019-07-16 20:59:56 UTC

Anarchism?

2019-07-16 20:59:56 UTC

You mean that?

2019-07-16 21:00:22 UTC

Yeah pretty much, the Weimar Republic was still a representative democracy

2019-07-16 21:00:52 UTC

Well

2019-07-16 21:00:57 UTC

That's a bit tricky

2019-07-16 21:01:18 UTC

At first an anarchist free territory might and just might be swallowed by another country

2019-07-16 21:01:42 UTC

Considering there's nothing opposing it whatsoever and the region is isolated and doesn't trade anyways

2019-07-16 21:02:25 UTC

Then there's the problem of organizing those communites to actually produce things efficiently for everyone to get their needs done

2019-07-16 21:02:39 UTC

And when everyone gets a full say in that

2019-07-16 21:02:43 UTC

Things get trickier

2019-07-16 21:02:55 UTC

With hundreds of opinions on how to produce

2019-07-16 21:03:02 UTC

Whenever to produce something at all

2019-07-16 21:03:12 UTC

Or what to do with the produced things

2019-07-16 21:03:18 UTC

It can work, yes

2019-07-16 21:03:37 UTC

In fact there's a million worker cooperative here in spain, all of hem having a say

2019-07-16 21:03:46 UTC

But they organize themselves into factions

2019-07-16 21:03:54 UTC

And that slides into representatove democracy

2019-07-16 21:09:02 UTC

Well direct democracy is really just rep democracy on a very small scale, you would see a ward of a hundred people or less electing a representative whom they can switch out at any time. Direct democracy would be more efficient since the lack of terms results in decisions being made faster than the bureaucracy found in modern rep democracies.

2019-07-16 21:09:32 UTC

Direct democracy works but only in really small scales, that's the thing

2019-07-16 21:15:10 UTC

What's the issue with it being on a small scale? A decentralized system would just function as a group of smaller systems working together. Which would solve issues faster rather than the bloated rep democracies we see today.

2019-07-16 21:19:06 UTC

Well

2019-07-16 21:19:13 UTC

That's optimistic

2019-07-16 21:19:46 UTC

I do not trust a group of 100 people say all from the same region to solve their problems on their own and to manage themselves

2019-07-16 21:20:18 UTC

They'll need diferent types of peoples with different types of skills to actually maybe sustain themselves

2019-07-16 21:20:43 UTC

Let alone be able to actually even trade with other comunities

2019-07-16 21:21:15 UTC

If that was the case you might aswell call the region independent

2019-07-16 21:21:37 UTC

But not for long cause unless they have a good farmer personel they would all starve

2019-07-16 21:21:58 UTC

And that's without counting how to deal with internal strife

2019-07-16 21:22:23 UTC

External threats that would want to put down this territory that is neither protected and isn't trading with them

2019-07-16 21:35:40 UTC

I don't see a reason for why people can't be educated in a direct democracy, they would actually be more educated since people could go back to post-secondary without the threat of debt. Defense could also be sorted out in this manner, not to mention the fact that every commune is protected since everyone has the access, ability, and education to use violence. Defence forces as seen in Rojava are organized in the principle of direct democracy and they have been able to hold out against Turkey.

2019-07-16 21:36:04 UTC

Well

2019-07-16 21:36:08 UTC

This "army"

2019-07-16 21:36:15 UTC

You have 2 options

2019-07-16 21:36:27 UTC

A decentralised army, everyone making their own moves

2019-07-16 21:36:45 UTC

Basically easy picks for bigger armies that just need to defeat them individually

2019-07-16 21:36:49 UTC

Or a centealised comand

2019-07-16 21:37:03 UTC

But then you have a direct democracy over a lot of people

2019-07-16 21:37:23 UTC

And thus hundreds of opinions and diferent aproaches
