A dude near me is selling 3a body armor with a vest and trauma pads for $150. Is that a good deal? I don't know the company of the armor or anything.

Yeah that's kind of what I'm thinking. But would it be better to save several hundred more dollars and get ceramic plates? Or would this be a good place to start?

Yeah I would say if the sole purpose of the body armor is for when shtf, I would save up and get rifle rated ceramic plates.
In that instance almost everyone you would run into would have some kind of firearm firing a rifle cartridge.
