Can you explain what you mean by legalism?

2021-02-02 23:08:45 UTC

Look up Traditional Latin Mass.

2021-02-02 23:08:47 UTC

"if you sin, you go to hell. let's focus on the hell part, rather than redemption"

2021-02-02 23:09:18 UTC

The 7 sacraments @Jenjen

2021-02-02 23:09:50 UTC

which are unbiblical by the way.

2021-02-02 23:10:33 UTC

that's why so many people turn to faith groups like Hillsong, because they get to hear about jesus, and get to learn how to have a personal relationship with him, without the onerous ritualistic stuff

2021-02-02 23:11:15 UTC

I'd be careful about hillsong.

2021-02-02 23:11:32 UTC

ie. "come as you are"

2021-02-02 23:11:43 UTC

Hillsong is bad

2021-02-02 23:12:01 UTC

Carl Lentz cheated on his wife

2021-02-02 23:12:02 UTC

yikes!

2021-02-02 23:12:20 UTC

i'm not a fan of prosperity gospel, and then there's the whole cheating thing

2021-02-02 23:12:35 UTC

Yeah Hillsong associates with false teachers.

2021-02-02 23:12:46 UTC

what makes them false?

2021-02-02 23:13:38 UTC

I said they "associate".

2021-02-02 23:14:34 UTC

Benny Hinn and Bill Johnson

2021-02-02 23:15:06 UTC

are who Hillsong associates with

2021-02-02 23:15:13 UTC

jesus associated with prostitutes and lepers, that doesn't mean he was one....

2021-02-02 23:15:44 UTC

keep your friends close and your enemies closer, so you can witness to them and pray they turn their ways šŸ™‚

2021-02-02 23:15:57 UTC

I usually associate fire and brimstone with the Baptists. The modern Catholic Church I would say has gone full liberal. But about the 7 sacraments. They are biblical, I guess I could spend time looking up the verses. But I’m making dinner. Jesus was baptized, the told the disciples ā€œwho’s sins you forgive, they are forgivenā€, marriage was already a sacrament in Jewish law Jesus emphasized monogamy, umm let’s see, the institution of the Eucharist before his Passion and death...

2021-02-02 23:16:52 UTC

How are they biblical, chapter and verse

2021-02-02 23:16:57 UTC

you should see some of the sjw crap they're teaching in catholic schools in australia... dear god, save me

2021-02-02 23:17:26 UTC

7

2021-02-02 23:17:29 UTC

A perfect number

2021-02-02 23:17:32 UTC

The rules are there for our benefit, not for making us feel like prisoners. But the other bad thing about modernism in the church, is they teach all the rules, but don’t talk about Jesus as loving you as an individual. There is no heart in so much catechism.

2021-02-02 23:17:36 UTC

777 rather

2021-02-02 23:17:49 UTC

big yikes

2021-02-02 23:17:58 UTC

modernism kills everything good

2021-02-02 23:18:06 UTC

The pope has sold off the Catholic Church in China. It’s just pure evil

2021-02-02 23:18:46 UTC

this is what i got from the catholic services i attended..... no mention or discussion about how jesus loves me, just "do this, do that".... that only applies to people who had already devoted their lives to jesus.... i was still on the fence at the time, so the rules made no sense

2021-02-02 23:19:03 UTC

@nrky wouldn't false teachers be the more like the Pharisees and Sadduccees?

2021-02-02 23:19:06 UTC

The laity don’t even know what to do, and the local priests many of whom are good good Christians who love God, are stuck too. They have to be obedient, but at the same time, they don’t know what is coming from Hod or the Devil

2021-02-02 23:20:00 UTC

@Jenjen well there goes the infallibility of the pope idea.

2021-02-02 23:20:36 UTC

all i felt when i went to catholic services was blame and guilt, no redemption or love there whatsoever.... catholic preachers and laymen here in australia have become so insular that it only appeals to those who grew up in the church, which is why attendance and new converts are dwindling

2021-02-02 23:21:19 UTC

@nrky Have you heard of Ray Comfort?

2021-02-02 23:21:25 UTC

Saint Francis DeSales, Ignatius spiritual exercises, Saint Teresa of Avila her book the interior castle, there are so many saints and mystics in the church who have written a lot about how to pray and have a relationship with God and to place yourself within Godā€˜s heart.

2021-02-02 23:22:14 UTC

anglicanism is somewhat similar in that it's focused on maintaining a status quo, rather than sharing their gift of god's love with the world. there's no catholic or anglican witness here, mostly it comes from indian and southeast-asian presbytarians

2021-02-02 23:25:51 UTC

@nrky I'm nondenominational but I just consider myself just a Biblical Christian, I don't care as much for what denomination a fellow christian is in, if they are in Christ they are my family in Christ.

2021-02-02 23:25:53 UTC

Here’s a beautiful prayer by a catholic monk fairly recently:

Jesus to the soul:

Why are you upset and agitated? Leave your cares to Me and all will be fine. I tell you honestly, every act of true and blind reliance on Me results in what you desire and will resolve all your difficulties.... more found here https://www.discerninghearts.com/catholic-podcasts/jesus-take-prayer-servant-god-fr-dolindo-ruotolo/

2021-02-02 23:28:29 UTC

lol ray comfort, that's the living waters dude.... i get random pamphlets in my mailbox every few months from his followers

2021-02-02 23:31:03 UTC

last one i got was the one about the science in the bible, was an interesting read
