One time i had a scissor lift tip and i grabbed a fire protection water pipe and literally kept it from tilting over. I had to wait on some guys to help
I was about 20' in the air
Word, I was at Toyota Princeton, IN one afternoon and one of the vendors was walking the conveyor where the seats come down to thr line, they were looking up and walking and someone didn't close the hatch where the seats go down and dude fell on to two something like 3foot spikes. Died right there. Hands down the absolutely worst thing I've ever seen in person.
@Lebens that sucks. @Thomas Morrow I was driving a man lift at full speed around a house and hit a bump it was like a slingshot, threw me in the air, I had my harness on that day, lucky haha
Construction sites and factories are hazardous
@RevStench i refuse to move a scissor lift horizontally unless its fully lowered first, after that fire pipe save the company at the time i was working for when i wagecucked made it a rule that scissor lifts were not allowed to drive while lifted at all
Idgaf if it takes longer im going home to my kids after work
Haha for sure. I'm the same way these days. I don't take extra risks unless there is no other option. I don't even get on scaffolding without a harness anymore either
If i sell a contract that requires scaffolding i charge so much i just pay someone to climb it. I don't mess with that
Hahaha I don't get that option. I get to comfortable when I'm up high. You think 60ft+ up in the air walking on a 10in walkboard, you wouldn't let your guard down, but I do.
Hahaha I used to clean out machines for a living, one day while cleaning the Banbury machine (machine that makes rubber used for tubes) this guy turned on the machine and the gate slammed shut and nearly took my arm with it
He said he "didn't see my tag"
He didnt see your tag? Wtf? Did he see his teeth come out?
Oh fuck that. Did you not have to lock out?
Lock out tag out!!
Always!
And only you have the damn key
I had my tag on it but I couldn't put my lock on because it would have cut power to machines that were still running. Arkansas factories for ya...
That shit doesn't fly in an auto plant
I quit that job because they ran me into the ground under absurdly unsafe conditions for next to no pay
I love shop talk, all my friends are soft bitches, so I don't get to trade stories like this often. I know I'm lame. Haha
Haha it's cool. Most people haven't really worked a day in their lives
I think one of the worst days was one when these dipshit contractors broke a line going to the carbon black tower. There was carbon all over the factory and we couldn't leave until we got it up. That same week they threw a bunch of steel cable in the trash compactor and ran it, the whole plant continued to throw trash in there until it was full to the brim. This was all during summer shut down so we spent over a day in heat index 116 heat climbing in and out of a trash compactor fully suited and booted(there was toxic chemicals in the compactor)
It was a fiasco
Also the first time I saw someone pass out from heat exhaustion lol
@Deleted User we'd say knock out drag out. The maintenance guys were idiots
Bro that sucks, contractors can be the worst.
Theold timer I work for was telling his buddy who's a carpenter had a new kid on the job, they were cutting plywood and the kid was supposed to be holding it, well he was fucking off and the saw kicked back and cut the carpenter's right thumb off, it ended his career. Circular saws I have great respect for.
Jeez no doubt. If I can tell someone doesn't know what they're doing, or are careless, don't pay attention, or do drugs I simply won't work with them
Not worth it
What i love about we all do is that we make a positive impact on society. Little bitches that have more calluses on their asses than their hands get little respect from me
Right. I swear i could lite a fire by snapping my fingers they're so rough.
@Deleted User my woman has a love hate relationship with my hands
So rough they practically sand down sugar walls
Mine is a scrub nurse so hers is the complete opposite
Slick as glass
My ole lady used to be a professional but now she is very happy raising our son and tending to the house
Gloves curbed mine from being too rough. That and I wash my hands compulsively
I can't hardly work with gloves I have to cut the fingers out of them hobo Style. I see too much with my hands
It doesnt help that i ride motorcycles
@Deleted User me too
