I think people who are interested in doing something like this need to be able to use pragmatism, most LARPing can be avoided by the offenders asking themselves one little question, "why?" if you can't answer that question in relation to your idea then you should either A) throw out that idea because it's garbage, or B) try to prove it and understand, if you can't, start from A.

Since we're just tossing shit here's my ideal: modest, picturesque half-timber and stone cottages each on their own half acre or acre property, with their own gardens, dotted along a south facing slope hillside. These would be built sustainably, we'd incorporate permaculture techniques, and learning skills to maintain that lifestyle independent of the modern world... this doesn't meant we don't have contact with it or we don't use plastic bags or the internet. We'd have all of that. But we just wouldn't be dependent on it. It would be a mixture of the hobbits and the elves of lord of the rings. We'd basically be techno-amish.

A lot of tiny, practically invisible towns like this in the region. Would be pretty awesome to find one where much of the property sites were for sale.
