yes they probably are a burden, but so what, dont you think we should still show humanity and take care of them?

2017-10-21 05:17:45 UTC

Give them a job instead of free food

2017-10-21 05:17:55 UTC

we are separate from first colony, were focused on the pacific north west

2017-10-21 05:17:59 UTC

government jobs?

2017-10-21 05:18:13 UTC

what if there are no jobs to give, or should the government just create jobs?

2017-10-21 05:19:51 UTC

There is always a job, and if not they can just work for themselves. Teach them to grow their own food, teach them to build their own house. If they can do those things then there will be no need for welfare

2017-10-21 05:20:40 UTC

@Orchid PNW sounds much better to me than Maine tbh, but I'll see how much I can help with both groups

2017-10-21 05:22:19 UTC

to grow your own food you need land, and farming is a hard skill, it could take years for you to learn to feed yourself properly, and thats assuming youre young

2017-10-21 05:22:37 UTC

same thing goes for the house, and you need tools and materials as well

2017-10-21 05:23:00 UTC

Isn't Jason practically making an argument just for public schools

2017-10-21 05:23:31 UTC

that is something people in those decrepit appalachian communities should conisder instead of being poor as dirt generation after generation. But what if say youre 40 and youre factory job is gone?

2017-10-21 05:24:22 UTC

You'd hope by 40 you could have set yourself up

2017-10-21 05:25:06 UTC

you cant expect a factory worker to have enough money to retire at 40, and sometimes shit just happens

2017-10-21 05:25:50 UTC

I understand the need for compassion and humanity but I don't want the new society to end up like the old one, a welfare state

2017-10-21 05:25:53 UTC

If he doesn't have enough money to retire, maybe he should learn a skill

2017-10-21 05:26:44 UTC

thats not really a reason to not help people. I think there's a right way to do welfare, it doesnt always have to turn into what it is now

2017-10-21 05:27:22 UTC

i mean any society can eventually deteorate, rise and fall of civilizations and all that.

2017-10-21 05:28:24 UTC

Tax/welfare is state-run slavery, the most productive of the nation loses the most to give to the least productive for nothing in return

2017-10-21 05:30:59 UTC

ugh, that hyperbole again. I guess thats easy to say if your young and live in a comfortable first would country. I don't mind handing over some money to not see people starve.

2017-10-21 05:31:34 UTC

@JasonWilliams Wouldn't you just have a bunch of sick, homeless, starving people everywhere?

2017-10-21 05:33:52 UTC

Welfare attracts those sorts of people and the US didn't use to have welfare yet it didn't have homeless and starving people everywhere either

2017-10-21 05:34:26 UTC

Instead of welfare just have a community shelter and a soup kitchen inside

2017-10-21 05:34:39 UTC

To get them back up on their feet if things go bad

2017-10-21 05:34:40 UTC

the US had plenty of hungry people

2017-10-21 05:35:45 UTC

I don't think anyone wants another gibsmedat society

2017-10-21 05:36:03 UTC

@Orchid not as many as they do now

2017-10-21 05:36:17 UTC

what if you have a family, are they just going to give up their life and live in a homeless shelter?

2017-10-21 05:37:06 UTC

In traditional Western Societies it was Religious orders that filled the role of modern welfare

2017-10-21 05:37:17 UTC

They also dealt with education and medicine

2017-10-21 05:37:42 UTC

No, I wouldn't let it get to that, I'd make sure they were well set up so even in the case of my death they would still be alright

2017-10-21 05:38:09 UTC

I know how to save

2017-10-21 05:38:24 UTC

Also the US had far more hungry people in the past, there are very few people literally going hungry these days. Just look at the obesity rates among the poor

2017-10-21 05:39:18 UTC

The poverty rate in the US right now is larger than the actual population of the US before welfare

2017-10-21 05:39:41 UTC

modern poverty =/= hunger

2017-10-21 05:39:41 UTC

But sure there are a lot of fattiea

2017-10-21 05:39:47 UTC

Fatties*

2017-10-21 05:40:02 UTC

Poverty is still poverty m8

2017-10-21 05:41:24 UTC

Singapore has dealt with homless neets

2017-10-21 05:41:36 UTC

It's literally illegal to be poor and unemployed there.

2017-10-21 05:42:12 UTC

What system does Singapore use?
