2018-08-29 10:58:28 UTC

@Frego liberalism is a sin has some great anti Protestant owns in it

2018-08-29 10:58:57 UTC

Not to mention how to lay down the (divine) law to "liberal" Catholics

2018-08-29 17:20:47 UTC

@AlGoreRhythm have you considered Orthodoxy?

2018-08-29 18:01:01 UTC

@Scooter2000 are you sure about the whole needing to have the excommunication lifted by a bishop thing?
I know other excommunications can be lifted by the priests (given the authority by the bishops) such as those over abortion.
I should just go talk to the priest, but I've been distracted recently so I haven't had a chance

2018-08-29 23:02:25 UTC

I asked my priest(fssp) about the sin of apostasy and automatic excommunication. Apprently because I hadn't done a public renounciation (joining islam, freemasonry or being a militant athiest are the examples he listed) the absolution I received during confession was enough

2018-08-29 23:04:52 UTC

@Mephisto No I'm not sure. But having said that I would assume that as is the case with confirmation a priest acting as the Bishops delegate can lift an excommunication. If in fact that is the case.

2018-08-29 23:06:00 UTC

@Christopher Well that's good but I would slightly question him on that because wouldn't a public declaration of atheism be the same thing?

2018-08-29 23:06:12 UTC

In such an instance where that was made

2018-08-29 23:06:47 UTC

Not that you shouldn't trust his judgement but I would be interested in what precisely constitutes apostasy.

2018-08-29 23:10:11 UTC

I understood it to be a public announcement of leaving the Church.

2018-08-30 00:20:53 UTC

"screw mass mam I'm playing fortnight instead"

Vs

"I dedicate my life to Masonry"

2018-08-30 00:21:14 UTC

Hang on that means the founding fathers are all in hell for not denouncing Masonry

2018-08-30 02:42:21 UTC

@Scooter2000 I really don't know for sure, I'll ask him about it more later. I told him I saw myself as non-catholic and that all my friends/family and acquaintances saw me as such...

2018-08-30 02:42:46 UTC

He did ask the bishop and responded with "apparently" this is how it works.

2018-08-30 02:43:17 UTC

Still not receiving the eucharist anytime soon so I have more than enough time to really look into it
