>as the italian spear spam get closer, move my infantry in front of the archers
>get cav into position
>get the heavy cav to charge into the side of the spear formation
>split the light cav into a small detachment to harass the right flank, and the rest to kill the reinforcement commander
>italian spearspam gets snapped by the heavy cav

>as the battle progresses, it ain't looking good
>light cav managed to kill the secondary commander, but got absolutely shreded
>down to a handful of inf, and misc cavalry and still see a torrent of spearspam

>the archer units are running out of ammo
>put one unit of archers infront of the others to act as bait
>rest of the italians come and get pelted with arrorws
>somehow managed to kill the commander
>italians immediately retreat

I had an ambush retreat I fought where I won so accidentally.

And I was sieging a city and then a bigass army appear out of nowhere

I was just so focused on getting the fuck to a corner of the map and into formation

I had mostly heavy infantry, hastatii.

It was a fucking mad dash to the edge of the map, I kept feigning reversals and shit to fuck with the AI.

This was a high level army, iron armor and weapons, did NOT want to lose it lol

Reminds me years ago of early in a Greek campaign in RTW 1 when I sent 8 basic bitch Greek Militia Pikemen to take Segestica and on the way there I was jumped by 3000 angry Dacians

Thankfully the power of the noob octagon saved me....but they got close to breaching the lines

Nowadays though I just faceroll anything in RTW, had to upgrade to MTW2 to lose real battles

A friend of mine likes to give spies the plague and send them into his enemies cities

He decimated Rome that way before. By repeatedly giving them the plague
