the philosophical concept of God presents him as an ideal or as the personified virtue

2019-04-25 08:14:06 UTC

if you strive to become just like that Jesus figure or personified virtue, you'll likely end up being a better person

2019-04-25 08:15:28 UTC

Would those virtues be good if God hadn't demonstrated that they were good?

2019-04-25 08:15:43 UTC

if you're religious for merely social reasons and if you're lacking the philosophical understanding of what is actually moral, if you do not even recall what's inside your holy book (most christians), then you're likely going to act immorally

2019-04-25 08:17:46 UTC

@Sock given that we have a completely subjective sense of things and that we could be disproven by innumerable possible factors regarding everything we'd decide upon as moral values, we have no clue about what's true or what's truly good

2019-04-25 08:18:25 UTC

So you're saying we need to trust that what God told us was good is actually good

2019-04-25 08:18:34 UTC

I don't want to put words in your mouth

2019-04-25 08:18:41 UTC

Do you agree with that?

2019-04-25 08:18:42 UTC

Define God

2019-04-25 08:18:52 UTC

And then we might agree or disagree

2019-04-25 08:19:38 UTC

We need a moral authority, every society needs such. Some individuals don't, but they're not necessarily moral.

2019-04-25 08:19:54 UTC

Whatever form of Christian god you would believe to be the one who conveyed these morals that we otherwise would not have been able to distinguish

2019-04-25 08:20:44 UTC

Well define this "Christian" God, what would be his attributes?

2019-04-25 08:21:07 UTC

I'm not Christian I don't know.

2019-04-25 08:21:12 UTC

or what would be his nature

2019-04-25 08:21:20 UTC

well what goes beyond time

2019-04-25 08:21:49 UTC

or what is the ruler of time, the cage that makes up our world

2019-04-25 08:22:47 UTC

that without which time wouldn't have the structure

2019-04-25 08:24:41 UTC

I'm just wondering how you know that the morals god gave are actually good if you don't think you could distinguish good morals from bad without god

2019-04-25 08:25:27 UTC

Like he could have just given you non-ideal morals and you'd never know

2019-04-25 08:26:02 UTC

You have to know what God is if you want to talk about the theological understanding of good and evil

2019-04-25 08:26:56 UTC

But we don't really know what God is

2019-04-25 08:27:32 UTC

Because everything would emerge from God's voice and we would be his mirror image

2019-04-25 08:27:55 UTC

Well what goes beyond time

2019-04-25 08:28:31 UTC

or what is that which rules from the beginning to the end of it (a concept, not a being)

2019-04-25 08:29:19 UTC

the most basic event is A => B

2019-04-25 08:29:34 UTC

what does this event require

2019-04-25 08:30:17 UTC

`Would those virtues be good if God hadn't demonstrated that they were good?`
maybe, but how would we know if not for god?

2019-04-25 08:30:42 UTC

in the christcuck narrative, we have god to thank for our moral senses, us being made in god's image and all that

2019-04-25 08:31:07 UTC

well what is God

2019-04-25 08:31:32 UTC

"christcuck" is not an argument, not every Christian is a pope licking black people's shoes

2019-04-25 08:31:39 UTC

kek

2019-04-25 08:31:48 UTC

So let's say you're right and either logic or theology can prove everything god says is true

2019-04-25 08:32:00 UTC

the pope is evil, the vatican has always been evil

2019-04-25 08:32:15 UTC

no give me an answer to what is actually God

2019-04-25 08:32:27 UTC

otherwise you'll just reject everything as nonsense

2019-04-25 08:33:02 UTC

I can't tell you what God is because I don't believe in a god

2019-04-25 08:33:35 UTC

No give me an answer as to which principle goes beyond time

2019-04-25 08:33:47 UTC

I don't care about your belief

2019-04-25 08:34:32 UTC

Your faith doesn't matter whatsoever

2019-04-25 08:34:45 UTC

Time being linear could even just be a limit of our perception. The nature of the universe could trancend time and we wouldn't know
