Left is centralised big government, and hive minded citizens.
Right is minimalist government and individual freedom.

left = correct, right = hitler

I don't like the idea of a political dichotomy, but I suppose we're stuck with it.

The only way you can make Hitler right wing is if you define the right/left spectrum as different aspects of Socialism... that way, the only ideology on the table is a form of Socialism - so that's probably why they do it that way - simply so anything else doesn't even get a mention.

mass motorisation wasnt really a thing yet

in soviet they did control who was allowed to get a car because they did not want people to have the ability to get around easy. as public transportation was all you did need, as it did go to the factory and back
