a lot can be done teaching people not to throw away good food just that the date on the package did pass yesterday. most food is fine to eat past it expiring day. the two things I recommend to be careful with is fish and chicken
oh it's huge, the effort it takes to get the meal to your plate is quite large even before we start talking about meats or fish
if you put a carrot in the bin, you waste Petrol

modern farming is very efficient
it still cost fuel to get said carrots from the farmlands to your store and it cost electricity to keep the warehouses cold
which is still all represented in the price
which again is very low for carrots
