I've worked out why the outrage at proroguing... it's funnier than I thought.

A normal prorogue will add a few days onto the recess period - the outrage is that Boris prorogued for the entire period including the recess - so MP's cannot do anything during recess, whereas traditionally they could still do some scheming.
