And rodents are harder on birds than cats. They take nests and such. For every bird a cat might catch multiple eggs/babies are snagged by rodents
cats are an invasive speaces in many parts of the world. same with rats

@Thomas the Sowell Train [USA] This remembers me of two anecdotes: The first one is that the White House used to have a rat problem, until theodore Roosevelt decided to tackle the problem, bought two terriers and a gun and started to hunt the rats. After that, no more rats in the White House.

The other one is from my grandmother, when she was small and lived on a farm, they used to gather allthe man, adult women, and dogs, got clubs and pitchforks, tied their shirts and pants shut and drove all the rats out at least once a year and killed them off. How she described it, it must have been quite the show with a LOT of rats.
Yeah your average farm will catch hundreds.
