my friend had a go at how excessively white I am the other day

2018-06-01 18:24:45 UTC

@M4Gunner
It's more about responsibility

If you want to say " all cops are bad" do it, but you have to understand that this might cause some trouble to innocent people

2018-06-01 18:25:40 UTC

now I just want food

2018-06-01 18:26:03 UTC

well, in the meantime I'll watch crowder

2018-06-01 18:27:14 UTC

TYT isn't real news anyway, even if they want to pretend they are

2018-06-01 18:27:22 UTC

They are just about pushing a narrative

2018-06-01 18:27:24 UTC

@M4Gunner
Agreed

2018-06-01 18:27:26 UTC

>TYT
>Journalism
pick one

2018-06-01 18:27:30 UTC

hmm...I do think we need more penalties for blatant ties/propaganda, but how do we implement that without turning tyrannical?

especially since the court of public opinion is currently such a farce

2018-06-01 18:28:03 UTC

@Futh
I don't think it's possible.

A law like that can be used for censorship easily

2018-06-01 18:28:45 UTC

The best thing you can do to counter that, is having a big and unbiased news outlet

2018-06-01 18:28:48 UTC

that's what I'm worried about as well.

And we're at the point where people are too partisan to be thorough and too busy/lazy to sift through the details

2018-06-01 18:29:07 UTC

so huge portions of the public are enablers.

2018-06-01 18:29:33 UTC

Its a problem when the actual companies like YouTube and whatnot go out of their way to promote them too

2018-06-01 18:29:35 UTC

@Futh
Agreed

2018-06-01 18:30:12 UTC

it's going to be really hard to hold peoples' feet to the fire. I guess you don't need the majority to do so, but it'll be hard to really assess how many it takes.

2018-06-01 18:31:17 UTC

and yeah, a lot of corporations will straight up pursue their/their sponsors' ideological goals and slants despite protest because you can't mobilize energy indefinitely. activism requires fuel and people have lives.

2018-06-01 18:31:59 UTC

they'll just outlast them.

2018-06-01 18:33:20 UTC

@Futh
Yeah

2018-06-01 18:34:28 UTC

I think the topic of "breaking up" big companies came up last night?

Personally, I think it's sketchy territory with a lot of risk to give the state an inch and cede a mile but it'd probably improve things

2018-06-01 18:34:36 UTC

at least if limited to a google-sized entity.

2018-06-01 18:35:02 UTC

@Futh
I won't disagree, but i won't agree

2018-06-01 18:35:32 UTC

it's definitely dangerous territory

2018-06-01 18:36:12 UTC

Still, Google might be doing things far worse than what Facebook did

2018-06-01 18:36:14 UTC

at the very least, I don't want it to be the tool used. but I'd carefully keep it as a backup plan

2018-06-01 18:36:57 UTC

duckduckgo already exists

2018-06-01 18:37:09 UTC

but the problem is too few people really seem to be looking to get off of google.

2018-06-01 18:37:13 UTC

they're integrated

2018-06-01 18:37:23 UTC

it's at the point of habit or home

2018-06-01 18:37:51 UTC

that's a high hurdle. not impossible tho

2018-06-01 18:38:03 UTC

Hi Fat Mong Spag

2018-06-01 18:38:11 UTC

2018-06-01 18:38:18 UTC

2018-06-01 18:38:35 UTC
