Like that's a bad fucking sign

2018-06-17 05:17:53 UTC

Won against guerrilla? Not very likely, despite technological supremacy.

2018-06-17 05:18:12 UTC

I guess I just wish we could not have to use draft for proxy wars if at all possible

2018-06-17 05:18:13 UTC

because we couldn't let the communists gain a greater foothold in SE asia

2018-06-17 05:18:39 UTC

south korea, the philippines, japan etc US allies are right there

2018-06-17 05:18:41 UTC

Without a fight anyway

2018-06-17 05:20:04 UTC

yep

2018-06-17 05:20:10 UTC

and it semi-worked in korea

2018-06-17 05:20:53 UTC

Oh ya, we didn't want Korea to happen in veitnam, explains the pussy footing

2018-06-17 05:22:22 UTC

Korea and Vietnam are two very different stories. One was an enemy trying to actually fight in the open other was a hide&seek affair.

2018-06-17 05:22:55 UTC

I understand that at least

2018-06-17 05:23:36 UTC

Grand stragtic level is what I was referring to

2018-06-17 05:23:43 UTC

jungle warfare is literally the worst

2018-06-17 05:24:03 UTC

Vietnam had a lot more in common with Afghanistan than with Korea.

2018-06-17 05:24:29 UTC

Eh Urban might compete for the worst

2018-06-17 05:24:57 UTC

For one, support of the local populace in warzones was nearly irrelevant in Korea while in Vietnam it mattered a whole lot.

2018-06-17 05:25:05 UTC

@Fergazar thats probably true

2018-06-17 05:25:51 UTC

jungles provide little or no cover and are far harder to navigate than urban

2018-06-17 05:26:33 UTC

Depends on the city

2018-06-17 05:26:44 UTC

room to room fighting sucks but getting shot at without being able to see the enemy or even get behind something stronger than a fallen log is worse

2018-06-17 05:26:49 UTC

Idk, urban setting is pretty atrocious to navigate in as well once the initial destruction of the buildings happens.

2018-06-17 05:27:09 UTC

In addition, citys are hard because of how 3d they are

2018-06-17 05:27:11 UTC

also, few or no roads.

2018-06-17 05:27:32 UTC

resupply in the jungle is virtually impossible

2018-06-17 05:27:39 UTC

its also very easy to hide AA in a jungle

2018-06-17 05:27:49 UTC

Roads are death traps

2018-06-17 05:28:19 UTC

Props and speaking too much for a modern perspective, RPGs were not exactly common back then

2018-06-17 05:28:30 UTC

Perhaps*

2018-06-17 05:29:00 UTC

IEDs were always a thing though...

2018-06-17 05:29:10 UTC

Or javelins, or or or

2018-06-17 05:29:26 UTC

True, and they were also a problem in urban Warfare even back then

2018-06-17 05:29:38 UTC

Vietnamese you so stick mines on the end of sticks and suicide bomb tanks

2018-06-17 05:29:50 UTC

Stupid talk to text

2018-06-17 05:30:20 UTC

It got the message across regardless.

2018-06-17 05:31:25 UTC

Here's a real question, anyway we could have gone into Vietnam with a winning solution?

2018-06-17 05:31:47 UTC

Arab so is futile from the beginning and we should have come up with an alternate strategy all together?

2018-06-17 05:32:08 UTC

Or perhaps it was *

2018-06-17 05:32:50 UTC

Like with China and Cambodia being a pain in the ass was it even worth it?

2018-06-17 05:33:00 UTC

If we're talking shaped charges, the bamboo sticks are relatively decent delivery method if you manage to suppress the infantry supporting the armor. Don't get me wrong, very risky but not exactly suicidal in an urban setting.

2018-06-17 05:34:20 UTC

If it's a bunch of guys charging across a clearing, on the other hand, yeah, that's just stupid. 😛

2018-06-17 05:35:25 UTC

Lol ya that would be, and that jungle tactic by the way
