Hmm, looking deeper at things @Fulcrum010 , it seems that American and Soviet militaries made use of the axial-flow design that had been percolating among European brains following WW1(French, Italian, British, and German) and championed by the Germans at the end of the war. However the British evolution of a Daimler Axial-Flow engine by adding a fan mechanism(a turbofan engine) set the design lineage for turbojet technology to get the last laugh as technology improved in the coming decades(which originally had skepticism to their utility vs powerful prop engines). Turbojets are the ruling design in modern aircraft.

The Germans did try turbine jet engines before the war, but like with the British it wasn't viewed favorably with prop engines
