Two man turret, no radio until late '42/43, four speed transmission that was rough as guts, no turret cupola for the commander until later models, insufficient armour by late '42, earlier models had atrocious ammunition, models at the start of the invasion often only had ammo for the MG (albeit not a fault with the tank itself), no turret basket, fuel stored in crew compartment alongside the ammunition

most of these issues were actually noted in pre-war evaluation and were about to be remedied, but the breakout of the war forced them to shelve it

I remember someone arguing on youtube with The Chieftan that the Panzer IV was superior to the M4

The T-34's armor was great at first until the 75mm L/43 arrived on the scene. So they developed a plan to uparmor the hull but maintain the small gun
