[spoilers]

Just finished watching Blade Runner 2049, and am now reading the wiki on it, and am *now* blown away that some cunt still managed to find the film 'eye-gougingly sexist' considering the ***entire anchor of the plot*** is focused around the female being the saviour of the entire fucking species of replicants. The biggest plot twist of the film is that the male protagonist of the film *isn't* the saviour, but just another replicant with the memories of the *real* saviour implanted within him

Not only that, but Gosling's digital girlfriend has more character development that nearly any other in the film (and the 'sex scene' was remarkably powerful), the main antagonist is female, the boss of the protagonist is female, and the main characters in the replicant rebellion are all female - and I'm saying this not as a counter-critique of the film as being 'too female' or 'too female-empowerment', simply as matter-of-fact. What a time to be living in, where a movie centered around the propogation of species, and the power of the mother, appear to be considered fucking *mysoginist*

You know how there's that annoying trend where the villain in movies explains his entire plan for no reason?

2018-07-05 12:43:56 UTC

That is the entirety of inception

2018-07-05 12:43:59 UTC

Yeah

2018-07-05 12:44:02 UTC

I hate that

2018-07-05 12:44:02 UTC

except punchlines

2018-07-05 12:44:28 UTC

Well not just punchlines

2018-07-05 12:44:40 UTC

What they could show with five seconds of screentime, they take four scenes to explain

2018-07-05 12:44:42 UTC

It's to explain to plot to the viewr

2018-07-05 12:44:45 UTC

i haven't seen the new blade runner, i should get on that

2018-07-05 12:44:45 UTC

and it's horrible

2018-07-05 12:44:48 UTC

In q very lazy way

2018-07-05 12:44:57 UTC

*very lazy*?

2018-07-05 12:45:02 UTC

*VERY LAZY?*

2018-07-05 12:45:22 UTC

YOU MEAN THE MOVIE WAS MADE FOR THE AUDIENCE OF DORA THE FUCKING EXPLORER

2018-07-05 12:45:39 UTC

It's lazy because it's easy

2018-07-05 12:45:47 UTC

It's bad.

2018-07-05 12:45:54 UTC

That's why I liked Dredd, actually. The exposition wasn't awkward, and flowed with the film

2018-07-05 12:45:59 UTC

Dredd was amazing

2018-07-05 12:46:03 UTC

Yeah

2018-07-05 12:46:06 UTC

very bad

2018-07-05 12:47:38 UTC

I love nolan's older movies so much, man

2018-07-05 12:47:45 UTC

I already commented on Dredd here a few days back, but I'll add to that by saying how nice it was that the film, despite being life-and-death for the characters in the film, wasn't a 'save the world' epic either

2018-07-05 12:47:49 UTC

The writing and characters are amazing

2018-07-05 12:48:03 UTC

and he does it all without needing to explain shite

2018-07-05 12:48:05 UTC

Kinda why I liked John Wick but was left with a bad aftertaste regarding the sequel

2018-07-05 12:48:21 UTC

Should I watch the john wick movies?

2018-07-05 12:48:24 UTC

yes

2018-07-05 12:48:29 UTC

first one is top stuff

2018-07-05 12:48:31 UTC

Yes.

2018-07-05 12:48:31 UTC

All right!

2018-07-05 12:48:38 UTC

Right after I finish watching friends

2018-07-05 12:48:56 UTC

second one is a good film, but the longer it goes on the more it seems to be setting up for yet-another-comic-book-universe-where-everything-must-be-epic

2018-07-05 12:49:17 UTC

first one is just very good, gritty, arthouse-noir action

2018-07-05 12:49:20 UTC

The first was very very good, second one was decent but I agree too much setup for a sequel

2018-07-05 12:49:25 UTC

again, noone is saving the world or anything

2018-07-05 12:49:29 UTC

Hey guys, what is your favourite marvel series?

2018-07-05 12:49:34 UTC

it's just the protagonist seeking vengeance

2018-07-05 12:49:38 UTC

and he's no superhero

2018-07-05 12:49:41 UTC

Mine is punisher, personally

2018-07-05 12:49:49 UTC

But daredevil is a close second
