And pointing out that he's just a meh inspirational speaker wholly undue of the level of popularity he currently has gets you swarmed by his followers

2018-08-16 18:04:40 UTC

I didn't say women?

2018-08-16 18:06:15 UTC

The sole arbiter of cleanliness

2018-08-16 18:08:08 UTC

The original context is a metaphor anyway

2018-08-16 18:08:22 UTC

six of one and half a dozen of the other

2018-08-16 18:08:51 UTC

meh. cleaning your room is fun tho.

2018-08-16 18:09:01 UTC

and its fast if you do it often

2018-08-16 18:09:05 UTC

make it routine

2018-08-16 18:10:10 UTC

Jordan Peterson shouldn’t try to be a crustacean specialist

2018-08-16 18:10:18 UTC

That’s all I’m saying

2018-08-16 18:10:33 UTC

He’s not a biologist

2018-08-16 18:10:51 UTC

marine bio is not psychology

2018-08-16 18:10:55 UTC

marine bio is marine bio

2018-08-16 18:11:01 UTC

@Muhammad submit to the lobster master race

2018-08-16 18:11:05 UTC

I don’t think we’ve studied lobsters enough is my point to make claims like that

2018-08-16 18:11:13 UTC

He does a mean twister though

2018-08-16 18:11:17 UTC

I dont understand the lobster thing tho. Havent seen a single video about it yet.

2018-08-16 18:11:18 UTC

Bought the only issue I have

2018-08-16 18:11:55 UTC

He's suggesting the neurobiology is pretty consistent throughout the animal kingdom

2018-08-16 18:12:31 UTC

showing your palms makes people see you as more trustworthy @Reaps

2018-08-16 18:12:42 UTC

@Fitzydog danke

2018-08-16 18:13:19 UTC

Lobster behavior is so simple and easy to study compared to other species, that its a good model to use for understanding more complex systems

2018-08-16 18:13:26 UTC

ahhhhh

2018-08-16 18:13:28 UTC

ok

2018-08-16 18:15:41 UTC

Yes.

2018-08-16 18:16:20 UTC

The same message, wrapped up in esoteric nonsense about Jesus "being love" or w/e is hella cringe

2018-08-16 18:16:27 UTC

He's descirbed something similar to that himself; basically you want to convey your message without sounding like a grumpy old fart issuing specious orders like pulling yourself up by your own bootstraps, that sort of shit

2018-08-16 18:17:27 UTC

tbh jordan is one of few old people I actually listen to without cringing.

2018-08-16 18:17:41 UTC

(if its life advice n shit will say)

2018-08-16 18:17:49 UTC

Trying to offer good guidance without being some eyerolling spiritualist hippie type, nor the authoritarian type - both of which most younger people will roll their eyes at and not take serious

2018-08-16 18:19:44 UTC

Besides marine biology his message isn’t bad

2018-08-16 18:19:51 UTC

But in some areas flawed

2018-08-16 18:20:55 UTC

`w o a h`

2018-08-16 18:24:27 UTC

@MountainMan His use of the lobster is an analogy used to wipe away the postermodernist claim that oppressive hierarchy is the construct of some amalgamation of a capitalist heternormative patriarchal society. He makes the basis on lobsters being attuned by the neurochemical serotonin which affects their place in the dominance hierarchy, and despite our ancestral line diverging from lobsters hundreds of millions of years ago, we're still attuned towards that same neurochemical. So the concept of a dominance hierarchy is not something to be wiped away with a handwave, but something to be contended with.

That's all he's saying about lobsters. It's an illustrative side point to his main argument.

2018-08-16 18:25:18 UTC

@Legiondude Thanks for the thorough explanation fam.

2018-08-16 18:25:33 UTC

That's just an appeal to nature fallacy though

2018-08-16 18:26:21 UTC

Humans possess self-determination we are not animals

2018-08-16 18:26:39 UTC

He's aware of that

2018-08-16 18:27:52 UTC

He's saying we can overcome these things as rational people but being aware of these features built into our biology is not something to be trifled with on a whim.

2018-08-16 18:36:52 UTC

@radeon you free?
