cultural roots are important psychologically, feeling anchored to something real and all that. white and black don't tell you anything about that. im british, that is distinct from being french, or german etc in a myriad of ways. its a fundamental part of ones individuality, a part of the foundation of the self. as important as it is though, there's such a thing as emphasizing it way too much. one sees a lot of people acting as though their heritage is the most significant thing there is, which is unfortunate to see.
