@EnderOctanus The Netherlands has 12 provinces. The main task of the provincial states is to control the administration of the province as implemented by the provincial executive. The College of Provincial Executive is responsible for the daily management of the province. This college is chaired by the King's commissioner and also consists of a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 9 deputies. The King's Commissioner is the chairman of the provincial states and of the College of Provincial Executive. The members of the provincial executive are appointed by provincial states. The King's Commissioner is appointed by the government for a period of 6 years.
A special competence of the provincial states is the selection - together with the electoral colleges in Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba - of the members of the Senate. This happens within 3 months after the elections for the provincial states and the electoral colleges. When choosing the members of the Senate, not every member of the state has the same weight. That is also not obvious, because the provinces vary considerably in numbers of inhabitants. That is why the weight of the vote, called the voting value, depends on the population of the province. The population numbers for calculating the voting values are those of January 1 of the year in which the election takes place.
