@EnderOctanus wasn't exactly my argument, but kind of. it was more like i was saying, the sheer controversy about the issue, and the sensitivity and hysteria surrounding it, combined with the very large active conspiracy theories about it, leads me to have (some small) doubts in which side's information i should believe

well the main newspaper in soviet was the Pravda. it was 100% run and operated by the government. anything that was to in the paper had to pass a KGB officer.
