Cardinal Hlond is a great Polish hero. During WWII he was tracked down and eventually arrested by the Gestapo. He continued the fight after the war against the communist regime in Poland (which makes him an antisemite since the majority of prominent communists were jewish).
I really recommend reading his biography because he was also very active before the war
