After over 2 years of winning the show each time but never getting the jackpot, this Summer the quartet known as Los Lobos (The Wolves) will be getting their hands on the jackpot (plus the accumulated daily winnings) at some point. They will get the 53% of a total of, at least, 6,6 millions of euros (probably closer to 7 million by the time they win it).
The IRS will get the other 47%.
This week will show their 500th consecutive win.
BOOM!'s format:
· 2 quartets, each plays 4 bombs (questions) per team worth 200-400-600-800€
· Each team has to deactivate them (cut all the wires except the right one)
· If the wrong wire is cut, you get splashed with some random shit and the other team is allowed to kick out one of you
· After the 4 bombs, 1 member of each team faces off in a double duel: each participants picks a topic out of 8, there will be 7 right answers and 3 wrong ones. If you fuck up, the other participant gets a chance. The winner chooses a bonus for themselves or a penalty for the others.
· The survivors of each team participate in a rapid fire A/B question to get some more money.
· Whoever has the most money plays the final bomb - Only the survivors must answer 12 straight questions, only 1 retry allowed.
It's a nice format, the teamplay is cool as, during most of the show, you gotta work together. The format has been quite perverted as, initially, the quarters were meant to be friends, relatives, coworkers and so on.
Los Lobos themselves are some kind of "all-star" of people that have done well in other gameshows during the past 15 years. They only knew each other from some internet forums before the quartet was formed.
The content of the questions is rather brutal except for during the duel and some of the A/B rapid fire stuff. The 4 initial bombs sometimes have questions no non-specialists should ever know, the final bomb always includes some random-ass question too a la "which Jazz singer popularized this random song".
