I wrote this this time last year as my son was getting ready to go to college. Dear college professors who will be teaching my son:
Please do not feel it is your job to indoctrinate him with your ideas and beliefs. He is smart - most likely smarter than you- and that's not why he is going to college.
Besides the obvious technical aspects of his trade he will learn, he should also continue to respect other people's beliefs while being allowed to voice his own. I want him to be at a college where ALL points of views, all sides and perspectives are given. Where certain minorities are not more important than others. I want him to have friends and learn to debate their differences and maybe learn from each other without professors stepping in and being politically correct.
You are there to help my child to think and to think outside the box. Not to be told what to think and intimidated to say otherwise.
Colleges are a mess now. I hate that my son will be starting school next year while all this stupidity is going on in places of "higher learning". You can't be "tolerant" of your only one set of beliefs. That's an oxymoron.
My son is smart and will probably swim around all the propaganda debris anyway. But many students seem to be taught to be more ignorant by graduation. There are no safe spaces in the world. You will be offended in life and that's okay. Taking away another's rights? Not okay. Being offended? Normal.
God help these students.
